North Carolina's 1st congressional district is located mostly in the northeastern part of the state. The district is represented by Rep. G.K. Butterfield, a Democrat. He has been the representative since 2005.

Location: This area is located on North Carolina's Coastal plain and contains towns such as Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount, Goldsboro, and New Bern.

Comment by Rodney Ballance on September 15, 2009 at 8:33pm: Still exploring the potential for running against Butterfield. We are holding a meeting in Williamston to measure support on Thursday, Sept. 17th. I hope everyone in our district who can make it will come out and share their comments.

I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you, and letting my neighbors know where I stand on key issues. You already know where I stand on taxes! Come let me know what;s important to you, because if I'm blessed to be your congressman I will be working for you. Oh yeah, and I won't forget that like some politicians have done.

Comment by Rodney Ballance on September 9, 2009 at 9:43am: We are still exploring the feasability of a campaign to run against G.K. Butterfield for the 1st congressional district.

We will be holding a dutch treat luncheon at Noon next Thursday, Sept. 17th in the Hitchin' Post Restaurant on HWY 17 South of Williamston, NC. This meeting will be the first opportunity for the public to meet me, and hear where I stand on the important issues of our time, but more importantly for me to listen to what the people of this District want in a representative.

We will announce that we are seeking a campaign chairman and a campaign treasurer. We will also voice the need for an army of volunteers who want to help us bring "common sense" to Washington, DC.

I hope you will all join us at this meeting, and bring your ideas and concerns. I also ask you to pass this information on to everyone you know so they too can get involved.

After you hear me speak, you will understand why I will be known as "The Common Sense Candidate".

I am seriously considering this opportunity now, and continuing to talk to people all over the district. Please feel free to share your concerns and comments with me either through this venue, or directly to my E-mail. I will be a strong supporter of Fair Tax in the Congress!

The word is out that you may run. I think many people may do as I have done. I changed my party affiliation from Republican to Unaffiliated last week to be more flexible for the primary, and because the Republican Party is really clueless in NC. If you are a true conservative, will not check your principles at the House door and get behind Fair Tax, I think you have a very good chance with the political atmosphere we are now in. Fair Tax will make a solid foundation and will be a great way to educate the public. Go to my blog - jawsjr.blogspot.com - and look at the articles on Butterfield. He's a menace.

Comment by Rodney Ballance on August 22, 2009 at 8:50pm: I am considering a run against Butterfiled on the Democratic ticket next year. I live in Martin County, and am an Eastern NC native. Obviously I am a very conservative candidate, and support the Fairtax initiative completely.

Any advice or support would be appreciated as we form a team to determine the feasability of this potential effort.

We will never get any good programs like Fairtax in place as long as people like Butterfield are in office.
