If anyone can help Marilyn's project, that would advance the cause. Netroots is an important outreach to Democrats.

One month until the Netroots Conference!

Netroots Nation will take place from August 13-16, 2009 in Pittsburgh, PA at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. http://www.netrootsnation.com/

We need a team leader who will be responsible for setting up and taking down the booth -- and spend time as needed to make sure our booth is staffed.

We need three volunteers to staff the booth for this event.

We are also in need of funds to purchase materials for the booth!
Please mail donations to:
Illinois Fair Tax
P.O. 808
Oak Forest, IL 60452

Pay pal: fairtaxnow@aol.com
or through links on www.FairTaxNation.com or www.ilfairtax.org

Of course there are many other important events both in DC and locally where FairTax needs to have a presence. Any excess funds collected will be used to fund our presence at additional events.

Remember -- donations are not tax deductible!

Thank you for your help as we move FairTax forward!

Please contact me to volunteer!

Questions? Just ask!

A telephone conference of the state FairTax directors, and AFFT's (Americans for Fair Taxation's) Ken Hoagland, took place last night. The conference was led by Marilyn Rickert, IL. There were over 35 people on the call from the entire country. I could not make notes because I was driving, but the highlights I recall from memory are as follows:

NATIONAL BOARD
Members of the National FairTax Board were introduced. They include Marilyn Rickert, IL, Phil Hinson, GA, Ken Hoagland, AFFT, and several others whose names I do not recall.

LOCK BOX
Soon individual states will be able to raise and use funds by sending them to a "lock box," presumably a dedicated account, in Houston. This arrangement will enable states to use Houston's non-profit status and make it unnecessary for states to apply on their own to the IRS for non-profit recognition.

CONVIO
Phil Hinson, Georgia, will head a committee to review the AFFT contract with Convio, which expires at the end of the year. Convio is the company that maintains the national database of supporters. It has several remarkable capabilities, but was seen as deficient in other areas. Last month over 60,000 people were added to the database. This was seen as the rate at which we have to grow in order to get the FairTax passed. The committee will recommend improvements shortly.

The possibility of merging or integrating Convio with the FairTax Nation social networking group was discussed. There also was discussion about a central facility to enable states to set up web sites.

The discussion broadened into local initiatives. Adam Yomtov, SD-NY, pointed out that people at the local level like to set up wildcat web sites and take other initiatives. The concern was to keep the FairTax message consistent. Some wildcat websites, for example, might go on a tangent and attack Democrats, which is contrary to the non-partisan FairTax message.

BRIEFING OF SENATOR KIRSTEN GILIBRAND, NY, AND POSSIBLY THE BLUE-DOG DEMOCRATS
A briefing of Senator Kirsten Gilibrand, D-NY, was arranged by Barry Hinckley, SD-MA, who knows the Senator personally. The briefing will be conducted on July 28, 2009 by FairTax Co-Founder Leo Linbeck and Professor Laurence J. Kotlikoff of Boston University in Washington, D.C. If Senator Gilibrand agrees to co-sponsor the FairTax, this would be a major inroad to the Democratic side of the aisle.

A Southwest Georgia group was successful in getting a Blue-Dog Democrat to arrange a FairTax briefing with his fellow Blue-Dogs. It was hoped that the briefing could follow the briefing of Senator Gilibrand, but this remains to be seen.

TEXT-MESSAGING POSSIBILITIES
Danny Higgins, SD-IN, has paid for a service that lets new petition signers send an e-mail or text message into a service that automatically puts their information into a database. Danny discussed text messaging as an alternative means of communication, particularly to call people out to an event. Danny has a short-term recruitment goal of over 10,000.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 RALLY IN WASHINGTON
Jim Tomasik, SD-TN, urged a strong FairTax presence at the Tea Party in Washington on September 12, 2009. Ken Hoagland cautioned that if the rally becomes a partisan event, the FairTax message could suffer a setback. FairTax people, as it stands now, will not be permitted to speak. Jim Tomasik countered that FairTax needed to "go where the fight is," and that is the National Tea Party.

[Note: we have been positioning ourselves at tea parties as the solution to the concerns of people at the event.]

There was a general comment that the Republican establishment can be just as resistive to the FairTax as the Democrats.

TOOLBAR
Discussion took place.

I think that HR1207 (audit the Fed) will help Fair Tax.

Frelinghuysen sponsored the audit the Fed Bill yesterday! 186 Co-Sponsors now! I heard a banker on a Philly station yesterday say that he did not want the Bill passed because it would force the Fed to show Americans how they make "sausage". He said it would kill our monetary system. My question to this banker is why should we keep it?

Tom, they were probably discussing the VAT since the Washington Post had an article on that today. I agree, we need to contact the producer to get the FairTax discussed.

Jay Thomas hosts a radio show on XM Radio. He was just on Power Grid on CNBC discussing a VAT. I emailed his producer and suggested he have a FairTax representative on the show to discuss the concept.

Hey, just wanted to let you know John Adler just co-signed HR1207- Audit the fed. Many times telling your local representative that another from the state has signed on will get them motivated to sign as well. I personally believe that if the Fed REserve is audited we will have more info on our side for fairtax.....

MISSOURI HOUSE APPROVES STATE FAIR TAX CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT, SENDS RESOLUTION TO STATE SENATE

In a development of potential national significance, the Missouri House of
Representatives, on April 16, 2009, sent a proposed amendment to the Missouri
Constitution, HJR36 (copy attached), to the state Senate that, if enacted, would
bring a state-level Fair Tax to Missouri.

The sponsor of the bill, Edgar G. Emery (R-Missouri District 126, Lamar),
advised me yesterday he thinks the bill has a reasonable chance of passage in
the state Senate. There is no definite time table yet there - the resolution has
had its first reading. However the passage of the proposal in the state House
has enhanced the profile of the bill in the state Senate.

If the state Senate approves, the measure will be submitted to the voters of the
State in November 2010 without need for consideration by the Governor.

If approved by the voters, the measure would take effect on January 1, 2012, and
Missouri would become the first laboratory in the United States - and perhaps
the world - to test the macro-economic benefits of the Fair Tax.

New Jersey FairTax State Co-Director, engineer and business owner, Norm Simms,
has stated frequently that his decisions on where to site production are
sensitive to tax climate. If the state FairTax passes, businesses would be
expected to seriously consider locating - or relocating - to Missouri.

Credit for the success of this measure goes to the Missouri FairTax volunteers.
