J David Swift said… Hi, again, Henry, do you see my point about the prebate money coming back to the treasury within the month when folks consume (spend) and pay the FairTax on their purchases! The prebate is just a way of exempting folks below the poverty line from paying federal taxes, just like the IRS does. But ALL the other advantages of the FairTax will come into play for everyone. By the way, everyone gets the prebate, so consumtion up to the poverty line is untaxed, but everyone who consumes over the poverty line pays the FairTax: its fair, simple, "transparent", business and employment-friendly, taxes the underground economy, earnings from illegal activity, and foreign tourists unlike the IRS code (except for the fact that everything has an embedded federal tax of about 22% under the current system) - so it is untrue that 48% or so of the people pay no federal taxes (no income tax perhaps, but usually the payroll/FICA tax and definitely the embedded federal tax) Am I being clear? Take care, David, Western NY, financial advisor/organic farmer/college physics teacher
