Stephen Decatur Miller, former South Carolina Governor and US Senator, made the phrase popular during his 1830 Senatorial election campaign against tariffs.
Stephen Decatur Miller, former South Carolina Governor and US Senator, made the phrase popular during his 1830 Senatorial election campaign against tariffs. He warned, "There are three and only three ways to reform our Congressional legislation, familiarly called, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box". In this divisive age, when the jury box is razed by a Supreme Court Justice being convicted of false allegations in the court of public opinion and an American citizen of color and media mogul is inauthentically disparaged for sharing his personal opinion with the President of the United States, the ballot box--the glory of citizenship--is what remains to keep us from devolving into a nation consumed by the cartridge box. One of the greatest weapons in the arsenal of citizenship is the absentee ballot. America's Conservatives and those that vote as Republicans must embrace this powerful weapon of the ballot box and protect the nation from the "political bully" that is the New Democrat Party. Vote Red. Vote Absentee.

Millions of Americans busily sort through the excessively complex, often punitive tax code while thinking there must be a better way — and there is.

Tax reform is about much more than rates, receipts, and deadlines, though. It’s about economic growth. It’s about freedom and opportunity for all Americans to pursue what they wish to achieve. It’s about making sure our tax code works in concert with the American spirit rather than in conflict with it.

So naturally, any tax reform proposal should start with these principles and work outward to reach that goal. That’s how the FairTax (H.R. 25) began; it’s why I introduced it in the U.S. House and have passionately pursued it since; and it’s why support continues to grow across the country and on Capitol Hill as a result. The FairTax has never been a Washington solution — it’s an American solution.

The FairTax is a complete replacement of the current income tax system — elimination of all the loopholes, costs, and Washington control — with a transparent, one-time, inclusive, federal sales tax on new goods and services. Under the FairTax, there would be no more annual filing; no disclosure of personal information to the IRS; no more tax withholdings from your paycheck, and so on. Productivity would no longer be punished, and April 15 would be just another beautiful spring day.

While tax reform is a common refrain in Washington, the tone of this Congress is noticeably different. With a willing partner in the White House, we have a very real opportunity to move tax reform through the House and Senate, and to the president’s desk for signature. It is a priority for President Trump, and it remains a priority of mine. That’s not to say President Trump is ready to sign the FairTax into law tomorrow, but I believe he’s open to good ideas, and he has a great team surrounding him — which includes Vice President Mike Pence, who was a co-sponsor of H.R. 25 during his time in the U.S. House.

It’s no secret that I want tax reform to be the FairTax in full right away, but I’m willing to get there a piece at a time if I have to. In fact, today you can see the fingerprints of the FairTax are all over the House Republican tax reform proposal led by Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady. As a supporter of H.R. 25 himself, Chairman Brady understands the “three yards and a cloud of dust” principle needed to move America closer to our end goal.

If we can incorporate the FairTax principles of simplicity, transparency, and creating a level playing field for our job creators into the reform on which we agree now, America will benefit, and we’re that much closer to implementing the FairTax in the long run.

The big ideas take time; and sending power from Washington back to the American people — as the FairTax does in a way we haven’t seen in decades — absolutely meets the criteria of a big idea. The current tax code is by far the most effective political tool for politicians to manipulate the behavior of the American people, and it has been used as such for far too long. H.R. 25 puts that power back in the hands of the American people, so institutional Washington tends to be a bit reluctant.

That’s why the strong foundation built by FairTax supporters across the country is so important. It doesn’t always capture headlines or trend on social media, but let me tell you, the untold Herculean efforts and tireless work done by the grassroots all across America is what separates FairTax passion from countless other ideas. Many things come and go in a time of rapid news cycles, but H.R. 25 is a constant, and remains the most widely supported fundamental tax reform bill in Congress. That matters.

It matters because as has been said, success is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. I believe we’re on the cusp of one of those opportunities, and I’m eager to move the ball forward. From national security to health care to tax reform, America’s to-do list has no shortage of items, but unleashing the power of the American economy is a shared goal at the top of everyone’s list.

Dear President Trump,

Congratulations on your great speech to the joint session of Congress. You hit a grand slam Sir! The reason I am writing you today is again about a tax plan that best serves most Americans. Mr. President, Governor Mike Huckabee tells us that we are spending nearly $1 trillion a year in the administration and compliance of our current tax system. One must agree that is a lot of money to take out of the economy that produces very little if anything at all. By shifting your plan to a consumption tax like HR 25, The Fair Tax Act, this savings could be accomplished and much, much more. They tell me that there is around $2-3 trillion that could be repatriated if there were no tax. Without income based taxes, I truly believe our economy would mushroom and very quickly.

One of my major concerns Mr. President is, what if some other country beats us to the punch. We both know that second place is first loser. The country that makes this move first will gain the most benefits. I hope sir, that your advisors, have the intestinal fortitude to make a really significant tax change. The proposed flat income tax is somewhat better, but it keeps taxing labor, savings and investment and keeps the Internal Revenue Service with it's almost 100,000 employees. To fix this tax mess, we need to throw out all 75,000 pages of the tax code and procedure, and end the IRS. Mr. President, many of your supporters are already supporters of the Fair Tax Act, and we hope we can persuade you to take a closer look before you arrive at a final decision. Perhaps you could talk with Congressman Rob Woodall, of the 7th District of Georgia. He is the sponsor and worked as former Congressman John Linder's Chief of Staff and is the man to talk to. Congressman Woodall is a real Patriot and exceptionally well versed on taxation matters. If the two of you were to talk, I know it would be a very productive conversation on behalf of all Americans. President Trump, I believe that you are the only person in our government that could shepherd such a bold and sweeping change to rid us of our current archaic, oppressive tax system.

Mr. President, I supported and worked for you long before most Americans thought you had a chance and am proud of what you are doing. Regardless of your decision on taxation, I want to thank you for listening. God bless you and the first family.

Sincerely,

The popular FairTax Calculator (the long name is FairTax Rate and Real Dollar Calculator) has been updated to reflect the Health and Human Services (HHS) official Poverty Level thresholds for 2016.

The new HHS poverty level thresholds were just released and those changes are now reflected in the FairTax Calculator. This year, HHS threw us a curve, but it was easy to deal with. In the past, there was a single dollar amount for an adult and a single dollar amount for a child. So the calculations to determine the poverty level for a family were simple multiplication and addition. But this year, the government thinks that it costs less for each of six or fewer children to stay out of poverty than it does for the seventh. They also think that each child over seven costs even more.

These different poverty levels required some branching changes in the code of the FairTax Calculator, that were not required in the past. They also required some additional explanation. But even so, making all of those changes only took less than an hour. The calculator has been thoroughly tested from 1 adult to 2 adults, from no children to 10 children, and from $30,000 to $250,000 in spending and the numbers all come out correctly.

Check out the 2016 FairTax Calculator here.

I hope that you find it useful. It's an Adobe Flash web widget, so if you want to include it on your own site, just click on the small "i" in the upper left corner of the calculator and it will take you to a page where you can find the embed code for that purpose. Note that in order to embed the widget on a page, you must either control the site or have permission to use either "object" or "embed" code on the page.

I tried to embed the calculator in this post, but FTN doesn't allow either "object" or "embed" code in a post. So here is a slightly reduced screenshot of the calculator, so you'll know what it looks like. Click on the image to get to the real calculator.

FairTaxers, how many times have you been asked by someone you are talking to about the FairTax, "What would my FairTax rate be?" I get it a lot. That's why I created the FairTax Rate and Real Dollar Calculator. It's a Flash web-widget that can be embedded on any site that you control (I.e. that will allow either "embed" or "object" code).

The calculator asks for just three inputs — 1) How many adults are in your home, 2) How many children are in your home, and 3) What is your family's annual spending on new, retail goods and services. There is a reminder that the dollar amount is spending, rather than income. When the visitor clicks "Calculate", his Effective FairTax Rate and the Actual Dollar Amount he would pay, appears below the input data. A button on the right will reveal his Gross (before prebate) FairTax Dollars and his Total Prebate for the year, as well. Back on the main screen, a button on the left will open a window with an explanation of how those numbers were calculated.

Any time I am being interviewed on the radio or television, I have that calculator open on one of my computers, just in case the host asks about what would be the Effective FairTax Rate for a family of "X" size, spending "Y" amount of money. As fast as the host asks the question, I have the exact answer.

Since this site will not accept embed code, here is the URL to the FairTax Rate Calculator and a snapshot of what the calculator looks like. You will note that in the example image below, I did the calculation for a family of 4, spending $50,000 per year. Go to the following link and check it out. Also, if you have a site that you control and you can include embed code, scroll down to the bottom of the linked page and you will find both "embed" and "object" code that you can copy and paste into your own side, so you can offer that calculator to your own readers.

The last CATS meeting I attended was in 1994 I believe, at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The event featured two Congressional leaders debating the issue of Income tax Reform.

Congressman Dick Armey of Texas was pushing a FLAT TAX. Congressman Billy Tauzin of Louisiana was in favor of a National Retail Sales Tax that would replace the IRS and Income Tax.

In my opinion, Billy Tauzin had the better plan and won the debate.

Since joining FairTax I've traveled to Washington, D.C, one time and attended many local meetings. And spent thousands of dollars of my on in the process of promoting both CATS and FairTax.

The sad truth is that we are still a long way from getting the attention we need. I'm a retired Marine Corps aviator and also a retired airline pilot. I will reach age 83 in June and still have the passion to see FairTax become law.

I have lived in congressional district 7, Alpharetta, Georgia, for the last 10 years. My Congressman is Tom Price for the entire time I've

lived in Alpharetta. Tom is not only an outstanding congressional leader, he is also a strong supporter of the FairTax Bill.

Just a few days ago I became away of a funding system that I believe would give us the kind of money we need to get serious promoters behind the FairTax.

I have a website and am in the process of developing the FairTax as my special project.

Please take a look at my website and get on some of the webinars and conference call that will be coming up in the near future,

Hello everybody. I'm getting some questions and comments from the yard sign and the bumper stickers. I highly recommend the bumper stickers. We live in a dot.com era and you never know who is Googling our name.
