The popular FairTax Calculator (the long name is FairTax Rate and Real Dollar Calculator) has been updated to reflect the Health and Human Services (HHS) official Poverty Level thresholds for 2016.
The new HHS poverty level thresholds were just released and those changes are now reflected in the FairTax Calculator. This year, HHS threw us a curve, but it was…

In an artical on Fox News, conservatives in Washington are in disagreement when it comes to the Marketplace Fairness Act 68-27, proposing that internet retailers should collect sales taxes on the sales that they make across state lines. Senator Ted Cruz calls it a "mad bill" saying it puts too much of a burden on small businesses to implement. Reagan-era economist…

First, let me say that I have a lot of respect for Dr. May. He has a long and lustrous career behind him and has apparently done well for himself. But I disagree with his assessments on this issue and I intend to point out just where I disagree and why. I hope Dr. May gets a chance to read and respond to this, but if the more likely case…

FairTax Splinter Groups can be found just about everywhere; on the internet and in your local communities. Facebook is the primary culprit with ~50 different pages dedicated to the FairTax, dozens of people who have created FairTax related accounts that violate Facebook's Terms of Service, and a couple dozen FairTax Groups (not to be confused with pages). There are also many FairTax groups I've found on LinkedIn, Meetup, and various websites scattered around the internet.
The…

THE FAIRTAX SERIES: EPISODE 5
AMERICA’S ROAD TO PROSPERITY
In this final installment of the FAIRTAX series I want to review the content of the series and give a few personal thoughts on our country, our system, and how I see the FAIRTAX being an integral part of the solution to our debt issue, though not the only aspect, and of how we get the United States back on steady…

AMERICA’S ROAD TO PROSPERITY
THE PRE-BATE
In this installment of the FAIRTAX series I want to cover the “pre-bate” provision of the plan. The “pre-bate” is a provision designed to help with the basic necessities of life, to essentially “un-tax” food, medicine, utility costs, clothing, etc. up to the poverty level. It is not designed to help the “rich” buy new cars…

BRINGING JOBS BACK TO AMERICA
In this installment of the FAIRTAX series I want to cover the impact of jobs, particularly manufacturing jobs, coming back to the United States. When Bill Archer (R-Tex.) was the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the tax writing body of Congress, he often quoted a survey of 500 international…

TODAY’S TAX CODES, THE COST OF COMPLIANCE
In this installment of the FairTax series I want to cover the cost of compliance and enforcement with today’s tax codes. Before I go into the complexities of compliance and enforcement I want to spend a few minutes dispelling the favorite myth of the anti-FairTax crowd. One of the things…

THE FAIRTAX SERIES: Episode 1
AMERICA’S ROAD TO PROSPERITY
AN INTRODUCTION
A couple of years ago I began hearing about a new concept in taxation. This new concept is called The FairTax. I didn’t pay much attention because I thought “how is any tax fair?” when some pay and some don’t. At first I dismissed it as another scam to throw me off the track of an out of control government looking for…

The last few weeks have seen an unprecedented furor over fears that the United States would default on its obligations due to a failure to raise our $14.3 trillion limit. As inconceivably high as that number is, the United States government considers it necessary to spend even more.
And while both sides fight over who will give on this point or that, the simple fact is that, if Congress were to pass the FairTax, not only would the whole Washington circus be unnecessary, we’d end up…
