Alternative Paths to Service

What I want to know is: if there is nothing wrong with discussing "alternative paths to service" with Senate candidates, then why is Rod Blagojevich going to jail?

The irony of another White House election tampering case revealed on the eve of the former Illinois Governor’s corruption trial is too rich to let pass without comment.

Some will argue that the cases are not comparable; but others will see them as minor variations on the same theme. Blago offered a job in…

Pool Boy

Your family makes $140,000. You pay your pool boy $24,000 but he spends $38,000. He is $130,000 in debt and he tells lenders you are good for it. Now do you get the Tea Party?

If you remember who works for whom and where the money comes from in the first place, it is pretty easy to see why people are hacked off. Add eight zeros to the pool boy’s numbers and you have the budget of the federal government.

The government works for us; the pool boy is not family. We…

Compassion

The dividing line between compassion and tyranny has a name: it is called coercion. It is the border that encircles libertarian geography on the political map.

Few would argue with our bedrock libertarian principle: it is unjust to initiate force or fraud against another person. Don’t you agree?

And yet we force people to join unions, force people to pay arbitrary prices for goods, services, and labor, force people to purchase insurance, force people to fund…

Arrested Development

The Civil Rights Act of 1964? Why do we have to reopen that debate because of something one guy didn’t say on a program no one watched?

And wasn’t the name of their website MoveOn? Whatever happened to that idea?

We are now in the fourth year of Democratic control in Congress, and they are still whining about GWB instead of doing the job we pay them for.

It has been thirty years since Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts were proposed, and I am still reading…

Tuesday's Primary Election

Arlen Specter lost, and Rand Paul won – that is not just big, it’s Joe Biden big.

You could not find two better poster-kids than Mr. Specter and Dr. Paul for what is wrong with this country and what might save it, respectively.

Specter served in the Senate for 24 years, while this is Paul’s first crack at public office. Specter is a regular on the Sunday talk shows, while Paul couldn’t buy his way on. Specter ran on ObamaCare; Paul practices actual health care.…

There's Your Problem With Government: Too Much Jockey, Not Enough Horse

It doesn’t matter whether the jockey is holding the whip in his Left hand or his Right; the problem is that he weighs over 600 pounds – that is the ratio of government spending in our $1.4 trillion thoroughbred economy. And we wonder why we are losing the race for global competitiveness.

Each new tax is one less bag of oats…

Happy Endings

http://timnerenz.com/content/happy-endings

As many of you have heard, we have decided to end our Congressional campaign. Tim, Not Tammy will missing the Tim part.

There is not a great news story here; no juicy sex scandal, no heroic fight against a deadly disease, no backroom deal brokered by secret world government billionaire bankers.

We are ending the race…

Heads And Tails

Economic Liberty and personal Liberty are two sides of the same coin; you can not pretend to keep heads when you throw tails away.

While I have devoted a great deal of time in these posts to matters of economic…

Math Reform

http://timnerenz.com/content/math-reform

While they are at it, Congress should go ahead and deem us all millionaires – that would be wildly popular in November, and we could afford their Health Care Bill.

Where to begin…..you can’t reduce the cost of something by 3,000 percent, even if you are the President of the United States. Once you hit 100%, the thing is free.

After promising a…

FLIP

http://timnerenz.com/content/flip

It is easy to remember the acronym FLIP: Free trade, Limited government, Individual Liberty, and Private property.

The libertarian political philosophy is adequately explained using just these four basic principles. And working the acronym FLIP backwards from right to left, each one builds upon the other in sequence.

You alone are…

No Means No

http://timnerenz.com/content/no-means-no

There are only two types of people who can convince themselves that “no” means “yes”, and that “she wanted it” is a reasonable excuse: rapists and liberal Democrats.

The American people have quite clearly said they do not want government-run health care. Polls consistently show only a third or less of us support ObamaCare in any of its mutant forms. No means no to the…

Abolish The What?

http://timnerenz.com/content/abolish-what

In my last post, I proposed abolishment of the Federal Reserve and the IRS; I hope I did not give anyone the impression that it was an all-inclusive list.

Democrats are a lost cause when it comes to fiscal sanity, and Republicans are math-averse – talking in platitudes about cutting taxes and reducing the deficit, but unable or unwilling to name the specific programs… Continue

Sound Money and Fair Taxes

http://timnerenz.com/content/sound-money-and-fair-taxes

2009 was a pretty bad year for the Constitution, but 1913 was worse: it was the year that the Federal Reserve was created and taxing income was legalized.

I don’t expect “Repeal the 16th Amendment” will replace “O Sucks!” as the student section chant of choice at next year’s Badger games, but it is those students and everyone in their age… Continue

Money For Nothing

http://timnerenz.com/content/money-money

In 2009, Democrats raised the bar for fiscal incompetence - never before in the history of the world has so much money been spent with so little to show for it.

It is shameful enough that they stole our grandchildren’s money to go on their fiscal binge; but it is downright embarrassing to see how ineptly they squandered over $2.6 trillion of future American… Continue
