Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Hi, I hope everyone is doing well. I completed a letter to the editor draft, which I am uploading here. Please read over it and let me know if there are any changes you would like to make. The Chattanooga Times-Free Press limits letters to 200 words, so I am fairly limited in the amount of information that can be covered. I tried to make it non-partisan and appeal to most people. I included the local website and fairtax.org instead of FTN. The .org site seems to have more general information for someone who doesn't know what the FairTax is and just wants the basics. I can change it though if you all would rather send people directly to FTN.com.

I also included a letter to Senator Alexander. I noticed on his website that he recently made comments supporting an optional flat tax to simplify the code for some people. I figured it wouldn't hurt sending him a letter describing the benefits of the FairTax over any flat tax – much less an optional one. Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions on this letter. I can edit the content somewhat and send to Sen. Corker as well.

In a rush right now, but I'll read these later this afternoon or this evening.
I just read both letters and both are excellent. I would suggest one minor chance. Instead of saying that the current tax system taxes "production", perhaps a better word would be "productivity".

Also, if you give the local monthly meeting info at the end of the article "Ryan's @ 7pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month", or something to that effect, it would be great.

Also, if Miki could put that same info, somewhere prominent on the front page of her website (fairtaxchatt), I think that would be helpful too.
Hi Cory: will look at these tonite. Sorry, computer whiz that I am, can't seem to get odt files to open on work computer.
I'm sorry - I should have saved them to a different format. I will upload them as PDF's.

Hi Cory and thanks. Just read both of them and, like Premo, think they are great letters. BTW, did we determine at last Thursday's meeting that you are our official letter writing campaign liaison?
If not, he is now. Hehehe.....
I'm not sure, but I will if you want.

Premo, I'll add the part about meeting at Ryan's to the letter.

Other than the Chatt. paper, chattanoogan.com, and Cleveland paper, were there any other places we are going to send letters now?

Thanks.
I think those 3 cover letters but when you submit community calendar announcements, might want to include the Catoosa County News and Walker Messenger, and there are two local radio stations that included announcements for us too (I have email addresses and/or contact info for each of these in case you need them).
I submitted the editorial letter to www.chattanoogan.com and the Time Free Press. I did not see a way on the Cleveland Daily Banner to submit a letter, nor did I see any letters to the editor on their site.
I doubt there is. The Cleveland Daily Banner is run by a very liberal bunch, at least when it comes to editorial policy, etc. It would probably have to be mailed or faxed in.
I sent a similar e-mail to Sen. Corker that went to Alexander. Here is the response from Corker.

Dear Mr. Colquette,

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office to share your thoughts about S.296, the Fair Tax Act of 2009. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

I like the ideas put forth in the Fair Tax proposal, and I look forward to reviewing it more carefully. I am especially interested in how a transition would occur between our present tax system and that of the Fair Tax. To that end, I appreciate the information and resources you have given me in your letter. Currently, S.296 is under review in the Senate Finance Committee. Should the bill come before the full Senate, the insight you have provided will certainly help my staff and me more affectively look into this issue.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me as I serve you in the United States Senate.

Sincerely,

Bob Corker
United States Senator
That is the exact, word for work response letter that I received several weeks ago from Senator Corker after I contacted him regarding the FairTax.
