It has been a while since I have been involved in something big... For some reason though, the tax bills and bail outs in congress have peaked my usually unpolitical agenda!
I have now become involved in creating a Tax Day TEA Party here in my home town of Martin, TN. Though doing something this huge in 2 1/2 weeks is something most people would not even consider undertaking, I am viewing this not only as totally possible, but also a thrill!
I am involving myself in my…

We manned a Fair Tax booth in Lomta, TX this past weekend at the annual Diamondback Jubilee. Over the day we had 7 volunteers come out to help raise awareness for the Fair Tax. While the turnout for the event was very low and very few people came by the booth, we enjoyed an opportunity to meet and visit with like minded and active Fair Taxers.
A cold and sand filled wind howled all day, most of the vendors didn't show up, and very few people attended the Lions Club event. Needless to…

The words of a great man spoken many years ago describe why the Stimulus plan put froth by our present leaders will not work.
"You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot keep out of trouble by sending more of your income. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatreds. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. You…

Heres the Kickoff-The USA Today reported that in order to try and lure americans to disclose hidden assets, the IRS announced a six month program that offers lower penalties. I was doubly excited when I got my second FairTax letter to the editor published just five days later in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press, a paper with a much larger circulation!

FairTaxers don't get mad -- we get busy. FairTax is the best solution to the economic mess we are currently experiencing. We need people at tea party events to distribute FairTax information and ask for petition signatures.
Tea Parties are being organized by American Solutions.
To find a tea party near you go to:

Hello FairTax Directors, Coordinators and Supporters,
During the last month GRFR has been working with Ken Hoagland at AFFT, who is nationally promoting the Grass Roots Freedom Ride for FairTax (GRFR).
FairTax.org has created a web tool to promote "freedom riders" throughout the country, a fund raising tool for use in every town. With our twist to this walk-a-thon concept, we believe we can create greater visibility and funds for FairTax promotion, by using this tool for fun…

I recorded it and watched it all and took some notes. These are just my thoughts and constructive criticism. Overall the exposure is very welcome and additional media coverage will be especially useful.
An interesting aside, but I checked the Omnibus bill and found that only Reps Linder and Broun had no earmarks next to their name. Rep. Duncan is associated with 8 of his very own! Can't have it both ways.
In general, I was disappointed with the whole hour. I am no expert…

Congressman King told me that this “…thing is a two way street. …there is more political capital in the grass roots than there is in Washington. DC.” After his efforts on the floor of congress, with the aid of the other brave co-sponsors, no one should complain that our co-sponsoring congressmen have not stepped up to the plate. They have offered FairTax as an alternative to the present course our government is forcing on us. FairTax is the single…

First, I think that Congressman King presented himself well in his speech. Since the average attention span is about 15 minutes, after which the viewer zooms out temporarily it is important to capture and keep the attention of viewers. Steve King allotted time for Congressman John Linder and other Fair Tax co sponsors. Each segmant was short and gave a differing viewpoint. Good Job Congressman!
Second, the Fair Tax was presented in an appealing light to low income and middle class…

Whether it's govt spending of earmarks, gun rights, mandates in education, trade deficits - any issue today comes back to
Taxation Without Representation. Americans are waking up to the fact that their elected officials no longer listen to them. With a little research the reason is clear. Congressmen are elected 90% by lobbyist funds. They pay back those lobbyists with our tax dollars in the form of earmarks. We cannot fight off every assault on our individual liberties - they can pass…

It is common for people to wonder how CPAs feel about the FairTax. Many of them feel CPAs would never support the FairTax since the tax code is one source of their revenue. Surprisingly, almost all CPAs I have ever talked with support it. I thought I'd start gathering CPA perspectives to publish. One of those follow.
