Folks,
As you know, there will a special election in the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania on May 18, 2010, and you can help push back on an ad being run by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee attacking Candidate Tim Burns for his support of the FairTax. You can view the attack ad at the following link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4W9Go8ajKM
The text of the attack ad is:
"Southwestern Pennsylvania is hurting, but millionaire Tim Burns would make things even worse. Burns supports putting a 23% national sales tax on just about everything we buy. Groceries: 23% more. Gas: 23% more. Burns even wants to raise taxes on medicine. We can’t afford to pay 23% more. We can’t afford Tim Burns. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is responsible for the content of this advertising."
That ad represents the very worst in American politics.
Here is what you can do. Thanks to Barbara Headlee of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania who responded to my earlier e-mail, we now have the names of two newspapers that circulate in the 12th District and the links to their pages for letters to the editor. They are:
The Obsever-Reporter
http://www.observer-reporter.com/OR/lettertoeditor/
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette
http://biz.post-gazette.com/contact/comments_form.aspx?ID=40
FairTax-ers, flood these two papers with your letters to the editor, letting them know what you think of the DCCC ad. You may be passionate, but you must be respectful at all times. If and when speaking for the FairTax organization, you may not support or oppose Tim Burns, but you may defend the FairTax. You, speaking as an individual, may do as you wish.
If you live in the 12th District of Pennsylvania, also send a letter to the local paper in your comminity.
Please blind copy me in on your letter once it is out to permit me to gauge the response.
Together, we can show the politicians that, when they run dishonest ads such as this, they will be called out - and called out hard.
Best regards,
~Jim Bennett
