Day of Mourning (100 years since the birth of the Income Tax)

Several tax reform sites have glommed onto the National Day of Mourning idea, to mourn 100 years of Tax Tyranny. In fact, the bill that initiated the 16th Amendment was passed on July 12, 1909. Therefore, this July 12 marks 100 years since the birth of the Income Tax and IRS and several groups are forming to protest in front of IRS offices around the nation on that date.

For our part, ActionAmerica.org has created the Tax Tyranny Clock web-widget, that continuously counts down the days, hours, minutes and seconds till that infamous anniversary. It is a Flash application that is 180px square. When the counter passes 00:00:00:00, it will display "100 Years Plus!"

Since it is designed as a widget, it is easy to embed the Tax Tyranny Clock on any web site for which you have access to the HTML source. You may find the instructions for this at http://www.actionamerica.org/taxecon/100yrs.shtml. It involves only copying one line of code and placing that line in the HTML of your site, where you want the clock to appear. ActionAmerica will host this widget till August 12 (one month after the 100 year date is reached), so you will have time to remove the code from your site, after the Day of Mourning passes.

This is just one more way to draw attention to the problems created by the IRS and Income Tax and will make people ask about the National Day of Mourning for our 100 years of Tax Tyranny, which will give us an opportunity to bring up the FairTax.

This is a great idea. Perhaps we FairTaxers should be planning some events or some event, ads, editorials, etc, for that day.

Thanks for sharing.
Nancy,

Check out ZapTheIRS, for information on events being planned for the National Day of Mourning.
Thanx, John, I will.
