FairTax National Spokesman Ken Hoagland appeared as a guest on the nationally syndicated Mark Levin radio show at 8:30 p.m., E.D.T., Thursday, September 10, 2009 for a ten-minute segment. Mark Levin is a conservative talk-show host. Ken introduced the tax as a tax that was better than the current tax system because: 1) it is a better tax, 2) it is a path out of financial ruin, and 3) it is a means to reconnect the will of Americans to their government.
Ken summarized the tax as a replacement of income taxes with a national sales tax that is non-regressive. The FairTax shifts the tax system from productive things that go in, such as income, to things that goe out, such as consumption. The FairTax gets rid of the April 15 deadline and makes the federal government stop acting as if the money we earn is theirs.
Ken stressed that under the FairTax $12-15 Trillion of private money would come into the economy. Today we have the second highest tax rate of all developed countries.
Ken submitted that the worst aspect of today’s system is that it is hidden and that it hides federal debt decisions from the people.
Mark Levin stated he was already a huge fan of the FairTax.
Ken pointed out that on September 11, 2009 there is a “Storm the Hill” rally. The event is organized entirely at the grassroots level, and FairTax Houston did not have a hand in it. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Pentagon to pay respects to those who lost their lives. At 10:30 there is a rally at the IRS building featuring speakers from across the political spectrum, including an Obama supporter. Following the IRS rally, the group will fan out and go to Capitol Hill to visit congressional offices, where Congressmen will be asked to defend why they defend such a corrupt system as our tax code.
Mark Levin asked about the rally the following day. Ken mentioned that FairTax was not invited to the podium, but FairTaxers would gather at the event to convey the message: don’t just be mad, here is the solution.
Ken again stressed that the FairTax makes taxes visible.
Mark Levin concluded by having Ken repeat the name of the web site and stating how much he appreciates the FairTax movement.
