Zuccotti Park,
New York City. "Stop tax breaks to large corporations!" Jim Bennett called out to passing
Wall Street Protesters in Zuccotti Park, New York City on October 22, 2011. Another catch phrase was "No tax loopholes for big business!" Both are proper claims of the FairTax and can be made without being disingenuous.
The message was received by the Wall Street Protesters with enthusiasm. The flyer that was passed out, attached, was custom-tailored for the occasion. It added a couple of paragraphs about auditing the Fed, which is unrelated to the FairTax. Jim and his wife, Christine, decided not to wear FairTax markings in order to make the effort appear more homespun.
The success of the pitch was proven by the distribution, over the course of three hours, of all 1,000 flyers brought to the park. This is a higher number than we achieve for all-day street fairs. Several commented that they already had the flyer and were in complete agreement with us.
We shall see if the effort translates into an increase in hits on the
www.fairtax.org website and/or sign-ups from the
New York area over the next few days.
