Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

I received an email (see below) from Representative Vern Buchanan (R FL District 13). The subject was an instant poll about how Congress may consider an overhaul of the Social Security system. I will reply by email rather than using the instant poll as it doesn’t give my preference of instituting the Fair Tax.

Yesterday, The Washington Post reported that Congress might consider an overhaul of Social Security due to the concern that the program’s benefits will not be sustainable over the long term. I would like to get your thoughts on this issue. Which, if any, of the following proposals would you support?
Increase the retirement age at which people become eligible for Social Security
Reduce Social Security benefits
Raise the Social Security (FICA) tax on workers and employers
No changes

Representative Buchanan does not support the Fair Tax. I think it might be a good idea for as many of us as possible to respond via email explaining to him just why the Fair Tax would be the salvation of the national economy, and more specifically, Social Security. His email is http://buchanan.house.gov/

Of course, if you do not live in his District, it may be more prudent to contact your own Congressional employee and instruction him or her as to your preference.

My answer to this is "none of the above". The Fair Tax eliminates FICA, but does not eliminate the Social Security system.

Its a loaded poll which only gives you a certain amount of options. So, the outcome is pretty well predetermined. It just gives validity to the congressman's stand. I think I would write to the congressman and point out the bias in his polling technique.
