Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Debt:  Another Unfair Tax?

I will ask this:

The Fair Tax makes taxes visible.  And lets people represent themselves by buying less when overtaxed.  Shall debt also be disallowed like unfair payroll, income, business, capital gain, death, and gift taxes (as another unfair tax on our children and grandchildren who cannot now vote against theft of their "American Dream"), and because this tax (debt) is "invisible"?

Here is why I ask this question:

Why Not Freedom! by Kennedy and Kennedy gives this quote from a letter to a friend:

I wish it were possible to obtain a single amendment to our constitution.  I would be willing to

depend on that alone for the reduction of the administration of our government of the genuine

principles of its Constitution: I mean an additional article, taking from the federal

   government the power of borrowing.

       - Thomas Jefferson

The placing of an undue burden of accumulating debt upon the backs of unrepresented generations was viewed by Jefferson as a violation of the principle of the "consent of the governed" and therefore as a violation of the civil liberties of unborn generations of Americans...

How a government finances its operations will go a long way in determining if it is or will remain a free society.  In a healthy democratic republic, the people, acting through their elected representatives must agree upon what they wan their government to do, and how they intend to pay for government programs...  If they tend to be too extravagant with the people's money (remember, taxes are a taking of personal property), then the people will remove their elected officials at the next election.  This serves as a check against the tendency of politicians who would otherwise vote for pork barrel programs.  Pay-as-you-go financing forces politicians to face the people and explain why they increased their taxes...

Debt (or borrowing which creates the debt) on the other hand is anti - democratic.  Because it requires no increase in taxes to fund government programs, government officials can initiate new programs without worrying the taxpayer!  By borrowing, there is no need to report to the people or to justify an increase in taxes in order to pay for new government programs...  Politicians hate to raise taxes, but they love to enact pork barrel programs to "help" their constituents - constituents who, by the way, will be asked to vote for these same politicians at the next election.  Debt allows politicians to enact pork barrel programs without having to bother the voters with new taxes.  What a plan!...

The cost of these new programs is easily shifted to unrepresented future generations...
