Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25
Candidates' Forum, Seventh Congressional District of New Jersey, May 28, 2010
John Burchill and I attended a candidates' forum at the Otto Kaufman Community Center in Skillman Friday evening, May 28, 2010 sponsored by the local Tea Party group. All Primary candidates for the Seventh Congressional District were invited, and three of the four Republican candidates attended in person: Bruce Baker, Lon Hosford, and David Larsen. Leonard Lance sent his Chief of Staff, Todd Mitchell, and conveyed his regrets to the audience that he had to stay in Washington for a couple of important votes. Democrat Ed Potosnak did not attend and gave no excuse.
Before the program got underway, I was able to speak to Lon Hosford, Bruce Baker, Peter Howe of the Larsen campaign and Lance Chief of Staff, Todd Mitchell.
The program, following two lengthy introductions, proceeded in alphabetical order by last name of candidate. Bruce Baker and Lon Hosford, at the appropriate time in their respective presentations, came straight out and expressed their support of the FairTax.
The rest of the presentations, and questions-and-answers, were about non-FairTax issues. The Lance and Larsen campaigns attacked each other on several occasions, but Baker and Hosford held themselves above the fray.
I had to leave before the program was finished, but not before having handed out, with John Burchill's help, about 100 pocket cards. I spoke to several attendees, about half of whom had never heard of the FairTax.
