Please get behind this guy. He will be fighting an uphill battle. We need ordinary citizens to stand up and risk scutiny so that we can have our rights restored. Everyday people who are not lawyers should be seated in our gov't to represent us, not career politicians with no reason to listen because they believe that the few in Washington are more intelligent than the masses. It is time to take back our gov't and reduce it to it's original status; a status that the Constitution mapped out.

Thanks Christine; here's the skinny on Logan for those who like me weren't aware of him:
25-year-old Guard sergeant plans Arcuri challenge
BRYON ACKERMAN
Observer-Dispatch

A 25-year-old politically unknown sergeant in the Army National Guard has announced he will seek the Republican Party ballot line to challenge U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri, D-Utica, for the 24th Congressional District seat.

Ernest Logan Bell, who goes by Logan Bell, lives in Trumansburg in Tompkins County. He is a member of the Constitution Party and said Thursday he hopes to gain the Republican and Conservative lines for the November election.

Originally from Texas, Bell moved to Upstate New York about two years ago, after serving four years in the Marines.

Bell said he knows he is an underdog, but he thinks people will get behind his two major goals:

-- removing U.S. troops from all foreign countries.

-- and focusing on a smaller, more-constitutional federal government.

"I'm an outside candidate going against a well-funded political machine," Bell said. "I think people may be surprised how much money this message is able to get from anti-war enthusiasts and true conservatives."

Bell first declared his candidacy on New Year's Day in Ithaca, which is just outside the congressional district. The 24th District is a U-shaped entity that runs southward from the Mohawk Valley toward Binghamton in the South¬ern Tier, then back north into the Finger Lakes region.

Arcuri was elected to office in 2006 and then won re-election in 2008 with 52 percent of the votes against Republican Richard Hanna, formerly of Cooperstown and now of Barneveld.

Hanna has not yet said whether he will run again.

Primary possible

Bell said he plans to seek the Republican spot even if another candidate runs - especially if that candidate is Hanna.

Bell said he believes Hanna is a moderate Republican whose views aren't very different from Arcuri's, whose focus is not on a constitutional government and whose priorities would not include fighting for decreased spending.

"I'm not very impressed," Bell said of Hanna.

Bell isn't sure whether he would stay in the race if he loses a Republican primary, but said it wouldn't be off the table.

Most people are still waiting to see what Hanna decides, Oneida County Republican Committee Chairman George Joseph said. It can become important for a candidate to step out early to avoid holding the party back, he said, adding that he talks to Hanna about once per week.

"Richard is very deliberate," Joseph said. "I think he's been doing his groundwork. I think he's putting all his ducks in order."

Hanna, however, said he hasn't set any timetable for when he will decide whether to run again or not.

"Sooner rather than later, but other than that, nothing," Hanna said, declining to comment on Bell.

When asked about Bell's announcement, National Republican Campaign Committee spokesman Greg Blair said the NRCC is anticipating others to emerge as candidates.

"We expect a strong challenger to arise to go against Michael Arcuri," Blair said. "The seat is very much in play."

As for Arcuri, he is concentrating on issues such as the economy, health care, jobs and the war in Afghanistan, Democrats said.

"Obviously, 2010 is an election year, but at this time, his focus is on representing the 24th District as a congressman," Arcuri spokesman Jay Biba said.

'A daunting task'

Bell has not yet reached out to various party leaders.

Constitution Party Communications Director Mary Starrett said she was not aware of Bell's announcement.

Blair said he doesn't believe Bell has contacted the NRCC yet.

And Joseph said he hasn't spoken to Bell.

Joseph said it's great that someone - especially a 25-year-old - has the ambition to run for Congress, but it seems a little premature.

Whoever runs will need the support of Oneida County, which has a large percentage of the voters in the 11-county district, Joseph said. Anyone from outside the county would need "phenomenal credentials" to defeat a hometown congressman such as Arcuri, he said.

"That would be a pretty good obstacle, I think," Joseph said. "You can do it, but it takes money, it takes money and it takes money."

Bell said he has some funding secured, but he wouldn't further explain.

"I realize that it's a daunting task," he said of his planned run. "This year, in 2010, everything is up for grabs."

'Decided to run'

During his four years in the Marines, Bell served in Quantico, Va. Now, in the Army National Guard, he is a member of the Second Battalion/108th Infantry, which he said is tentatively scheduled to go to Afghanistan at the end of 2011.

His military experience has had a "profound effect" on his foreign policy of non-intervention, he said. It allowed him to see bureaucracy, wasted money and the effect the "perpetual war" has had on families, he said.

Bell's idea is to remove U.S. troops from all foreign countries - including Iraq and Afghanistan, where he believes the wars are not helping national security. Money saved from doing this could be used to rebuild the nation's economy, he said.

Bell said he believes his lack of political experience is a positive, and he considers himself a political activist - often writing to elected officials including Arcuri about his views.

"And I've been largely ignored," he said. "So I decided to run for office."

I have been hearing so much about Doug Hoffman, the 3rd party candidate that is getting so much support on Fox News and from the likes of Rush LImbaugh and Steve Forbes. I was soooo excited to think that he was in MY district. Come to find out HE'S NOT. I live right on the edge. He is district 23 and I live in 24.....so where is our 3rd party candidate? The 24th district has only one candidate for the 2010 congressional race and that is democrat Michael Arcuri. Please, please, please, if anyone knows anyone considering running, we need you. The Tea Party Patriots need to be directly involved in politics if they are going to change the direction of our country. I would do it, but I am not qualified. Please get the word out. Third party candidates WILL get America's vote.
