Briefing of Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Candidate and FairTax Supporter Robert Allen Mansfield

We briefed Robert last night at Doug's home in Collingswood, just across the river from Philadelphia. The briefing served more to fill Robert in on the technical points of the FairTax because, as it turns out, Robert knows much about the FairTax and is an ardent supporter already.

Robert is advocating a state sales in Pennsylvania tax to replace state income, sales and property taxes. We handed him, in addtion to our PowerPoint printout, a paper by Economist David Tuerck, Paul Bachman and Sylvia Jacob entitled "Fiscal Federalism: The National Fair Tax and the States." We marked the appropriate pages for Pennsylvania. Since that study does not appear to include state property tax, which exists in Pennsylvania, the numbers may have to be adjusted.

The candidate picked up quickly on the briefing points and asked probing questions. He demonstrated command of the subject matter and also demonstrated out-front leadership on this and other issues.

While FairTax cannot specifically support his candidacy, we can prepare an education piece on where the gubernatorial candidates are known to stand on the FairTax. Any assistance on that would be welcome.
