Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Folks,
We have a candidate in the 12th District of Pennsylvania (Southwest Corner), Tim Burns (R), who is running next month on the FairTax. Burns is running in a special election to fill the seat vacated by the death of John Murtha.

While we FairTax-ers cannot support candidates, we can, and must, educate the public when pro-FairTax candidates are attacked for their support. Burns opponent's party is running disingenuous attack ads against Burns on the FairTax. As individuals, you can do as you wish.

Now is the time for you to push back. Write to the editors of your local papers and talk to your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues and let them know that you, as their neighbor, support the FairTax. Local contact is far more powerful than political money to buy media.

As your new acting FairTax Regional Director, I am willing to help you to organize the push-back and help you draft letters to your papers. Just ask!

Here are the reports of the campaign from The Hill, the newspaper of Capitol Hill:

"In the May 18 special election in Pennsylvania to replace the late Rep. John Murtha (D), the DCCC is running a television ad attacking the Republican nominee, Tim Burns, for supporting the fair tax, using the issue to accuse him of supporting higher taxes on groceries, gas and medicine.

"The ad refers to an interview Burns gave last year in which he said he 'would love to ultimately see the fair tax implemented.' He went on to suggest that pursuing the fair tax 'straight out of the gate' would be impractical because it would require overhauling the entire tax code.
A Burns campaign spokesman, Kent Gates, said the DCCC ad is a complete distortion at best. Burns issued a statement to The Hill saying he supports making our tax code flatter and fairer.

"Any discussion like the fair tax would have to be part of a debate on creating an entirely new tax code, Burns said."

Another article:

"One danger of the Fair Tax is that Democrats have in the past misrepresented the issue.  When now-Senator DeMint of South Carolina endorsed abolishing the income tax, amending the US Constitution to ensure that no income tax could ever be reestablished and only then allow the creation of a FAIR tax/sales tax his Democrat opponent ran a million dollars in ads suggesting that DeMint was proposing a sales tax on top of the present tax structure.   Didnt work, but it did confuse voters for several weeks."
