Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Here is the email that I sent to Mark West just now. When he replies, I'll post his response here.

Subject: July 4th Tea Party

Hey Mark, hope everything is going well with you. I've not heard anything lately about a Tea Party event in Chattanooga for the July 4th weekend and I was wondering if there is in fact an event scheduled? If so, what can we at SERFTC do to help?

We're more than willing to lend a helping hand and you can count on us to have a tent at the event and have someone speak if needed.

Please get back to me a.s.a.p. so that I can pass along the necessary info to the others in our group.

No additional comfirmations, but added another potential speaker that I think will come through. Someone from The Campaign for Liberty will hopefully be able to speak. They're a well known, Liberterian national organization that opposes the Federal Reserve, among other things.

First - I see that I said I would bring 15 business cards, when I meant to say I would bring 1500 business cards. Just a couple of zeros. ;-)

And, I received the following reply from www.fairtaxchatt.com this morning.

""I am the Chair for the Southeast TN Chapter of the Republican Liberty Caucus. I just recently discovered that we are having side by side meetings in the back rooms at the Lee Hwy Ryan's later this month on the 16th. Our meet is scheduled for 7. We expect a pretty good crowd, and are hoping to have one of the GOP candidates for the 3rd District House seat to speak. From what I know of the Fair Tax people, we are essentially looking for the same Conservative ideals of smaller government, less, more reasonable taxes. Maybe we could somehow "mingle" our 2 groups at some point?"

I haven't had a chance to reply yet, but do you think we should join 'em this month at Ryans? - LS
Yes, I am all for joining them. These are the same guys that had a 35 or so turn-out on May 28th and below is my assessment.

= = = = = =

Had about 35 folks, mix of disgruntled conservatives, independents, Libertarians and just plain concerned citizens and included reps from at least 3 other groups. Focus is on electing conservative (mostly local) candidates but willing to participate in state-wide or even national campaigns. Accept that no one candidate is going to be perfect candidate but will focus efforts on elections with candidate that best fits with both conservative agenda and state's rights issues. Groups were: Campaign for Liberty, Heritage Republicans of Catoosa County, TEA Party folks, and HCGOP. Also included individuals from Dade County, Georgia and Mt. Juliet, Tennessee were also present.

RLC is established in 31 states, Tennessee already has I think 3 chapters including the SE Tennessee RLC chapter organized last night. They consider themselves a "big tent" or umbrella kinda of organization except they have specific tenets and will work with anyone as along as objective is compatible with theirs.

I'm not quite sure why they can draw decent crowds and we cannot but since our goal is to increase FairTax visibility, if we can take advantage of their "magic" to get our message out there, count me in. MD
oops, I almost confused that group with another one.
I've got no problem, mixing our group with theirs for at least the one meeting. After the meeting, we can determine if we want to continue or not. I got to thinking. We had planned to perhaps not hold a meeting in July or August, but now that we're so involved in the Tea Party, if we have a decent crowd, we should tell everyone who comes by the tent about our next meeting and try to get some numbers there. Add that to the folks that they might bring in and we could have a large meeting which can only help with the enthusiasm.
I just sent a mass email out to all the speakers for the Tea Party. There is still an outside chance that one or two other speakers might accept. I've given them a deadline of 12:00pm on Friday to let me know.

Anybody got a video camera that they could bring to videotape the event? It would be great to be able to put up portions of the event on YouTube, especially the FairTax segment and shots of the crowd. I'm hoping there's a decent turnout. I don't expect what we had in April, but if we had a few hundred, I'd be pleased.

BTW......I sent out a flier that Darrell did on the event to several radio stations and to all three of the local tv stations (3, 9 & 12).
Wow! Long, hot day, but I think that all in all we did well. One thing is for sure, it was an EXCELLENT learning experience for us. It was good to see so many of the speakers make positive comments about the FairTax. I think that folded well with my presentation, so hopefully we recruited some new folks to the cause.

Big shout out to Larry, for bringing the tent, all the FairTax materials and for "manning" the tent all day. Thanks to Miki for helping "man" the tent as well. A BIG thank-you for him for bringing his Honda generator. We would have been sunk without, as access to electricity was NOT available.

One thing is for certain. If the SERFTC had not gotten involved, this Tea Party would NEVER have happened. So, hold your head proud on this one folks. Nice job.

Larry...........got any sort of numbers for us, in terms of how many folks signed the petition? I had several people ask me about our next meeting also. I think we should go ahead and have our normal July Meeting. Regardless of how many people we had sign the petition, those are all new people who are at this point, enthusiastic and we need to keep them that way and get them to a meeting and do a standard presentation.

If you guys think we should join up with this other group this month fine, just make sure that they understand that we need "X" number of minutes (Larry, let us know how much time you need) to present the FairTax.

Again, thanks to everyone who was able to make it today. I really appreciated all the help.

Lastly, I saw at least three tv camera crews at the event. I was interviewed by Channel 12 and Channel 3. The interview with Channel 12 went the best. The girls asked much better questions and let me go on longer than the guy from Channel 3.

If someone has a DVR and could record the 6 o'clock and the 11 o'clock news, that would be great. We could upload them to YouTube and embed them on our site and/or the FTN website.

I'm also going to try and get a copy of or link to Jeremy Jone's video footage that he took of the Tea Party. I encouraged him to upload the raw footage right away and suggesting that he could upload edited footage later.
Hopefully he'll do that, but of course, I have no control on that. It's totally up to him.
Here's the email that I just sent to Jeremy Jones about getting access to his video footage.

Jeremy:

I just wanted to say thanks again for being a part of the Tea Party today. I was only able to get bits & pieces of each speaker's speech, but from what I could tell, the crowd seemed to respond well to what you were saying. I think that maybe you're a natural at this sort of thing. Good luck in your campaign for Georgia's 9th Congressional District.

Also, if you don't mind to send me the YouTube link once you get your video posted that would be great. Also, if you take the time to edit the raw footage, I'd be more than willing to pay a nominal fee, if you'd be willing to edit a piece specifically for the SERFTC. We'd only need some crowd footage, my speech of course and then any segments of the other speakers where they talked favorably about the FairTax. If you could do that for us, it would be a great help and like I said, I've got no problem paying some sort of fee for your time and effort.

If you'd rather not do that, but could provide us with the raw footage, I'm sure that I could find someone to do the editing for us. Again, I'd be willing to pay a small fee for the raw footage.

Think about it and get back to me via email. If I need to meet you to pick up a DVD or something, that can be arranged. I'm in Cleveland, TN, but have no problem running over the line to Georgia if needed.

Here's a link on Channel 3's website, with a story about today's Tea Party. There is a video too.

Thus far, Channel 12 hasn't posted anything from today. They had a story about the Athens Tea party already on the site, but nothing about Chattanooga. However, here is a link from a July 3rd story, where they interviewed Darrell Hoover while he was passing out flyers on Friday. There is also a video.
