It is 1:30 Saturday, 2/28 and I am recovering from one of the most delightful shocks of my life. This morning Kansas City experienced one of the worst blizzards I have ever seen in this city. By 8:00 AM some parts of the areas had 5 inches on the ground and it was increasing in intensity.
Earl Long, KS SD, and I thought it would be impossible to have an out door rally that anticipated a mile walk from the starting point to MO Senator Clair McCaskill's office. At 10:15 as I approached the starting point I observed 4 or 5 people all bundled up with signs. I was delighted to know that at least we could say we tried. As I turned the corner I was overwhelmed to see 4 to 5 HUNDRED chanting sign waving enthusiasts.
Most of the signs were home made and vigorously protested the stimulus. A very sizeable number were FairTax supporters calling for passage of a real stimulus without bankrupting future generations. This was communicated in a variety of ways. FairTaxKC's presence as a core was very obvious.
There was no one in McCaskill's office but the group spent most of an hour chanting, waving their signs, piling them at the office door and generally sharing their enthusiasm. Representatives of groups I had never heard of were enthusiastic to join us.
A media crew was there for the whole proceeding and must have taped for at least an hour. Their leader turned out to be an independent film producer. He explained he saw the 400 to 500 of "Amanda's Army" at Congressman Moore's office last week and thought he might be observing the start of a "movement" which he would document and distribute. We will work with him as he now believes his observation was very correct.
FairTaxKC and "Amanda's Army" were the catalyst but very limited publicity was necessary to bring several hundred divergent enthusiasts to walk a mile in a blizzard.
I was certainly not expecting what happened and suggest that if you are not already participating in this phenomenon you step out and give it a try. I can only hope it is as delightful and energizing for you as it was here.
