Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Recently, I was encouraged write to my new Representative in Congress, promoting the FAIR TAX legislation and - as is typical, there was no response.  She is a Republican, both of my Senators are Republicans.  Normally, I am not concerned about the lack of response, but they are talking about the budget - even as you read this, so it is important that the appropriate committees can hold a hearing on its validity.  Otherwise, we can forget about the possibilities.  Perhaps, by 2012, we might be able to force a hearing.

For this reason, I am starting my own plan - get to the opinion makers, the columnists who have to write about something every day and what better subject could they have than taxes, the taxes being paid by their readers.

So, step one follows:  The following was sent to 30 of the more prominent columnists in Washington, DC, and I am already looking for the addresses of others in other cities.  Here it is:

Subject: Considering the FAIR TAX proposals

"At eighty-one years of age, a college graduate, a man who served this country in Korea, and has since tried to pay close attention to the affairs of "State", I want to share with you my dismay at what I see happening all about us.   As a noted columnist, I am praying you might pay attention to the appeal of the FAIR TAX proposals before Congress - that ALL of my representatives obviously prefer to ignore.

There is a real dismay among millions of Americans concerning the ever escalating cost of government and the onus of ever increasing taxes.  Most of us can understand that, but what troubles me is the only weapon in use appears to be - an axe.  Yes, there are questionable programs, no doubt about that, but a legitimate answer to our ills can only be found in revised legislation - aimed at the core of the problem, the fact that our Congressional representatives have access to our pocketbooks and the FAIR TAX proposals (S 13 in the Senate and a similar bill in the House of Representatives) could put an end to that.

You may be right - this is a drastic change to the system, but it is the system that is eating us alive.  You and I both know - most of our politicians are more intent of running for re-election and that they are not really interested in the hard work required to enact the FAIR TAX proposals.

But - the Republicans learned that the voice of the people is powerful.   So too, are the voices of our columnists.

Can I count on you raising your voice so that mine might be heard as well?  Thank you!!!"

Now am I prepared to get a tremendous response?   Are you kidding?   No, when they do not reply, they will receive another and - if necessary, a third, reminding them of what happened in Egypt when the "powers to be"
chose to ignore the will of the people.  You see, I believe we have that kind of power.  If the "Tea Party" people can do all they have done by getting people angry about whatever it is they are, then I have to believe we can outdo them with a simple reminder - ..."it isn't taxes, but your pocket book, that is our greatest concern."
As long has Congress has ready access to our pocketbooks, the future is theirs.
Their future is supposed to be limited to two years, or six years, longer if we have evidence they are doing a good job.  How they OUR money ought to be our number one priority.
So now, anyone care to help?
