GOP Platform Committee

Dear Dick and committee,

Thanks for all you do. I know I can learn a lot from all of you and am thankful for the opportunity to do something other than complain about modern politics. I will do my best to be available for the committee meetings as they are scheduled. (Appreciate your reminders) I downloaded the 2010 platform from the GOP website and read it Tuesday night in preparation for the Wednesday night meeting. I was actually very impressed with it as it is. The only thing I felt like revising myself was the item we ended on at the meeting Wednesday night under 1. Economy, Jobs and Taxes. As I mentioned when the meeting was breaking up, I wanted to send in a suggestion to revise the part on the Federal Tax System. Here it is for your consideration.

We support elimination of the Internal Revenue Service and replacing it with a simplified system that uses a constitutionally limited national consumption tax that cannot be raised without a 2/3 majority vote of we the people.

I don't think we can trust government bureaucracy to "reform" itself. We need to remove what is not working and replace it with something that does. We shouldn't be taxed on what we make but on what we spend anyway. If you are not familiar with the "Fair Tax" concept, do not be afraid to give it an honest look. I have attached a fact sheet that gives some information on it. There are also some websites on the "Fair Tax" for further review.
