Wow! Good luck with that Chiefcook! I know the FairTax is non-partisan, but I really don't believe this group is going to support a Tax Reform that takes power away from government and is based on free enterprise. I want to see Democrats and Independents learn about the FairTax in order to realize the benefits and positive effects it will have on America, but I also believe the people in this group would rip you apart if you post a discussion about the FairTax on that site. It would be a bit entertaining though.....
The way to win these groups over is to establish certain talking points. It is not to "bash" any political group or party.

I am attaching two different sources documents that can be used to develop the talking points. We do not need to mention the Fair Tax up front but rather get everyone to agree with the talking points and THEN explain that the bill HR-25 will do all this!

This is the method many politicians use to talk their way around using the words "Fair Tax" but support all its points.

Douglas...we are WARRIORS! I just signed up for the coffee party in my area. Nothing like a good DISCUSSION! I have a very dear friend who absolutely is all for the FairTax!
WE NEED a CATCHY THING like this for the FairTax...with the interactive US Map...but hey...couldn't we do that & show all our DD, SD, CC's?
Roger that everyone. Believe me, I'm with you and this looks like a great plan. The nuts & bolts of the FairTax should be embraced by the left and moderates as well as the right. It's just that the far left has been "trained" to shut down and dismiss any discussion of the FairTax because it has been labeled as a "right wing" tax reform. So, seems like your plan is a good one...let them agree to the principals before they know the name. My previous comments were more about the discussions and attitudes of the blogs on this website and much less about your attempt to reach them.
Three of us went the Orlando Coffee Party Group. We were very well received. Many of the attendees had heard of the Fair Tax, but were not familiar with it. We passed out information and answered a lot of questions. When the small groups session ended and one group had on the list of things for action was "get rid of the IRS" everyone applauded!

There will be a Coffee Party Summit all across the country on 3/27/10. We have been invited back to attend that event!
Wow. I thought the Coffee Party was supposed to be a liberal thing. Maybe more tea partiers showed up to crash the event. Lol
Here is a picture from the event. Notice me on the left side with FTN shirt!

Two weeks later at our next meeting.

My sense is that the Coffee Party is truly about cooperation in government (not hostile to Fair Tax). I will find out more this Saturday at the Redmond WA (home of Microsoft) Coffee Party meeting to prepare questions for "Left Coast" Congressman Jay Inslee staff person, Patrick Hogan. I will also be in attendance when those questions are asked Wednesday of Patrick. I will "play it cool" until establishing good relationships with the group, but will look to "at the right time" put in good words regarding the Fair Tax.
I have asked Congressman Inslee (by email) to support the Fair Tax (using Steve Bang's Hyundai vs. Ford tax cost analysis pointing out the value to all Americans of jobs, capital formation (entrepreneurship), and global competitiveness of the Fair Tax approach to funding government). This is an American value (benefits both liberal and conservative). Some short email interaction ensued with the Representative. This (Coffee Party) may be(come) another path to further that interaction.
One of my big goals is that the Fair Tax be given "fair treatment" by liberals as well as conservatives for this (global competitiveness) value to all Americans.
Thank you, ChiefCook for pointing out this networking opportunity.
May the best tax win.

How was the reception at your coffee party?
No Fair Tax discussion yet. I arrived late due to another activity that Saturday AM, but started building rapport with two still there. They (five different people) will ask the (5) questions already prepared for Jay Inslee staff person this Wednesday evening (tomorrow). I will see how this goes and hope to "guide" as time goes on. Recall this area (Western WA) is less "conservative - friendly" than some.

In concert with this, above, you said:

"The way to win these groups over is to establish certain talking points. It is not to "bash" any political group or party."

I agree & will "take it slow" seeking (always) positive momentum even if progress seems slow. Recall, my goal is to build "left" support for the Fair Tax approach to funding government (we do not have much of that even though we "could").

Oh, I did (when asked) briefly mention "a funding approach for government that will enhance US global competitiveness" or something to that effect. So some "seeds" ARE in fact, "planted", but that was not my goal for this first meeting. It just happened.

Thank you, ChiefCook, for posting this discussion and your ongoing interest.
