As a single person your poverty level is $10,830. You will receive 23% of this or $2, 491. anual amount or $208. each month. The 30% has nothing to do with it. The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) applies to the amount of Social Security you would get and has nothing to do with the Fair Tax. That is handled as a totally separate item.
I don't have the software to download the 2009 Fair Tax Prebate Schedule. Please, I'd like to print this for use in my first meeting tomorrow night. Is it available somewhere in a PDF format? Or could someone put it up here and I can copy and paste? This is a big source of frustration for me. The bulk of the iliterature available for printing from the main page is inaccessable for folks like me. I can't afford the software. Any extra money I do come up with goes to that barometer over there on the right or into printing and creating other materials for Fair Tax. Can someone help me out here? Thanks!
The file above is a WORD document. If you have almost any word processing software it should work for you. I do not have a way to save it as a pdf file, but maybe someone else can does and can open the file and convert it. Then post it in this discussion.
What I have is next to nothing. I have no WORD capabilities. My pc and I are dinosaurs. But I work the heck out of I've got. If anyone is tech savvy enough to convert it to a PDF, please do. Sorry about the inconvience.
I may try the library computers tomorrow if I've got time to get to it before the meeting. Otherwise, I'll go with the 2008 schedule. I've got plenty of copies of those.
Just in case anyone is interested, I thought I would provide this update. (the calculations of the poverty level this year was less than 2009!
On December 19, 2009, the President signed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010 (Pub. L. 111-118), which included a provision affecting the poverty guidelines. Section 1012 of the law states that:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall not publish updated poverty guidelines for 2010 under section 673(2) of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 (42 U.S.C. 9902(2)) before March 1, 2010, and the poverty guidelines published under such section on January 23, 2009, shall remain in effect until updated poverty guidelines are published.
The Congressional Record (House) (December 16, 2009, p. H15370) provides the following explanation of Congressional action:
Section 1012 includes a provision to freeze the Department of Health and Human Services poverty guidelines at 2009 levels in order to prevent a reduction in eligibility for certain means-tested programs, including Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and child nutrition, through March 1, 2010.
