Kudos to Glenn Beck for having over half million people come to DC on 8/28. BUT, to keep the Beck phenomenon into proper perspective, I've re-posted a discussion here from over a year ago. Nothing has changed in the Beck diatribe since that time, and I'm beginning to wonder if the current "return to God" message is not a smokescreen over the policy issues he promotes.
Here's the old post:
Judge Napolitano boldly asserted that we will have no freedom until we get rid of the income tax, to a chorus of shouts and applause. Just as quickly, Glenn Beck, in an almost urgent attempt to sweep away that notion jumped in with a peculiar supportive statement, saying that “we wouldn’t even have to get that far”– but the mere threat would get the government to “LOWER THE RATE”. This is upsetting. Is it END the Income Tax, or LOWER the Income Tax??? We’ve been hearing that same old line from Republicans for generations, and we’re sick of the government having all the control over our money. The Judge knows well that ending the income tax would allow Americans to “starve the government into submission”. What does Glenn Beck know regarding the Income Tax. We love Glenn, and rally with him, but we’re NOT about to fall for deceptive political double-talk. MR. BECK, YOU NEED TO GET ON THE WAGON WITH THIS MOVEMENT. To date, when ending the Income tax & the IRS came up, all we’ve gotten from these “leaders” is giving us a FLAT tax with a simpler form to file, and no deductions or exemptions. That’s NOT ENDING the income tax, that’s AMENDING the tax with a “flattering” new RATE. WE would still have the abusive IRS and no power over our money. The ONLY TAX PLAN (as in no others) that END the Income Tax AND the IRS is the “FairTax” bill of 2009 HR25/S296 now in Congress. (www.FairTax.org) It taxes spending not productivity, and “You pay when YOU say!" COME ON, GLENN!!!
