Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

This morning I went to the Library of Congress website(thomas.gov) to check on the number of cosponsors. I did a search by word/phrase with the phrase Fair Tax Act. The search returned a bill titled "Fair and Simple Tax Act of 2011"(H.R.99). It is obvious from reading some of the text, this is a flat income tax proposal. No other bills appeared when searching with "Fair Tax Act".

I then did a search by bill number with H.R.25. The result was our bill with the title "To promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national sales tax to be administered primarily by the States."

Why was the title of the H.R.25 changed? Did the sponsor of H.R.99(Rep. David Dreier) file his bill with "Fair and Simple Tax Act" to deliberately garner more attention for his flat income tax bill when people search for our bill with the phrase "Fair Tax Act"? Was H.R. 99 filed before H.R.25?

It is a disservice to promote H.R.25 with a title no one will remember instead of the Fair Tax Act that has been used since 1999.

Thank you Dan for bringing this to our attention.  This is exactly why we need more and more education on the Fairtax HR 25.  If you weren't educated on the Fairtax HR 25 you would have been confused.  And that is exactly what our opponents want... more and more confusion.  They know the more confused you are the less likely you are to get involved with the Fairtax HR 25 movement.

Hr-25 has been filed.  It now has 51Co-Sponsors!  The text is not available on Thomas.gov, but here is the name.

1 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE; TABLE OF CONTENTS.
2 (a) SHORT TITLE.—This Act may be cited as the
3 ‘‘Fair Tax Act of 2011’’.

There was an introduction paragraph.  That is what Thomas.gov is showing as the name of the bill.  Both bills were filed the same day.  Why one is posted and the other is not I am not sure.

I have attached a copy of the new HR-25 for everyone's reference.

> Italked to Marilyn this morning, she says it's just how government does things. Just gives us another job, educating people on the truth. This other bill has no co-sponsors by the way.

I noticed that although it has 51 co-sponsors, that my congresscritter, who was a co-sponsor in past years, has not yet signed on as a co-sponsor. I wonder if there are any others who are backing off.

I know that my congresscritter, Kevin Brady, is very shrewd. I thought that he was really in favor of the FairTax. But he may have been pulling the same tricks that he uses on 2nd Amendment issues. He supports pro-gun bills that he knows either have no chance of passing or no chance of failing and then opposes those pro-gun bills where his vote will make a difference.

I'm beginning to wonder if he wasn't supporting the FairTax, only as long as he thought it wan't going anywhere. I've written him twice, asking him to sign on as a co-sponsor of HR-25, but the last time I checked, his name still wasn't on the list. We could sure use his support, since he is on the Ways & Means Committee. But, after several votes with the RINOs, over the last few weeks, I'm beginning to despair that he may be more of a RINO than I first believed.
