Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Dear Fair Tax leader,
Gandhi with followers marched to the sea to figuratively and tangibly replace taxed English salt with distillate from the ocean.
In 1947, the "Great" Britain overlords left voluntarily as Mahatma "Great Soul" had predicted leaving India with self - government and self determination.

What if all Tea Party (remember the British taxation origin of that Bostonian term) or Fair Tax supporters refused to file tax forms next year or answer tax reporting inquests in protest of accounting slavery to the IRS? What if most went so far as to delay payment until the Fair Tax is enacted?
Might politicians stop venerating their lobbyist campaign supporters and actually acknowledge said marchers, protesters, and concerned citizens?
Might you, Fair Tax patriot, help do and promote this nonviolent civil disobedience?

Hmmmm...

What if we took the 2009 tax filing forms to DC on April 15 and demanded that our Congressmen explain how it works?

What if we calculated our tax according to the FairTax Act and insisted we pay that amount?

It is immoral to impose laws on a people that the majority of the people cannot understand sufficiently enough to obey it.

I have been trying to learn about Gandhi and MLK. Just look at some of the tactics they used. They were brilliant.
Not likely a significant humber of taxpayers will want to "just not file" their taxes. Asking fairtax supporters to violate the law is not the way to go. What will work is to elect only Congresman that will pledge to co-sponsor HR/25 S/1025 in 2010. Then in 2012 elect a president that will campaign on and pledge to sign th FairTax legislation when it comes to his desk. It can be done.
Thank you, Jim. I like alternatives. Yet we need focus.
Gandhi (and to a large but lesser extent) MLK took actions that could not be ignored.
If we "took the 2009 tax filing forms to DC on April 15 and demanded that our Congressmen explain how it works", would we get more response from those politicians than Glenn Beck gets to his "reasonable questions for unreasonable times" http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/29631/ from the White House?
The thinking behind this forum started with wanting to circumvent politicians with their obvious conflict of interest with Americans due to campaign contribution bribes from lobbyists to rig the tax code. POLITICIANS DO NOT WANT TO HELP THE FAIR TAX.
One solution might be direct voter initiative to repeal the sixteenth amendment (the one deciding that income tax "laws on a people that the majority of the people cannot understand sufficiently enough to obey it" as you put it could be enforced by a then - new "bill collector" enforcement / harassment agency called IRS). And this process would publicize the Fair Tax through voter's guides around the country (Amendment repeal needs ratification by 75 % of states).
But civil disobedience (not filing or paying tax) if done in large numbers is another way to "ignore back" the big government politicians who ignore citizen outcry. Perhaps we could do both (http://www.well.com/~bbear/collins.html#RTFToC10).
What do you think, Jim and others? Shall we reclaim emancipation from accounting slavery to IRS plantation thugs? Thank you for your help in refining strategy.

Thank you, Robert.
A voice of reason. I like that.
Only filing late and cooperating slowly is an alternative. Cooperating slowly was done in Europe to reduce the murder of Jews. Notice I asked an abbreviated version of not cooperating or doing so "slowly" in the beginning (not filing income tax quickly; clearly, not paying income tax is a more extreme stance).
But how sacred is "the law"? Did the original Tea Party break British Law? Did Gandhi?
I too would prefer a "political only" solution. Will that work? What must happen first before deciding on "stronger" action or inaction? How strong?
Thanks again, Robert and Jim. We may yet get our Republic back intact.

I also welcome ideas to publicize Fair Tax widely (voter's guides for initiative repealing Amendment 16, etc.) or otherwise legally promoting government (especially tax) nonproliferation.

Maybe we need to have a non-violent and (non-angry) storming of the Capitol Building in DC. That would get some folks attention.

Give me a thousand willing men and I'll be the first one to get tazered! ;o)
Would our STORMING the Hill on April 15, 2010 be a giant step forward in this? We need to make sure we have CAMERAS and VIDEO cameras then we go to each of the 5 buildings so we can RECORD and publish the event! Even if they do not allow us to record while we are in the building we can gather at the end and record who we talked to and what happened!

We have 57 people in the house who are supporting this legislation...could we not seek them out and see if they have some ideas?

One way to "legally" not give them one DIME sooner than they should have it is to NOT have enough taken out of our paychecks and them filing or an extension (provided it doesn't cost any money.)

Not filing may be an option for some, but for me I'd rather fight another way...I'll go to jail in a protest, but NOT because I didn't pay my taxes/file, which would also include interest and penalities! WE the PEOPLE have the power with our voices, our feet and our VOTES to MAKE this happen!

MOST people don't even know this legislation exists let alone not filing their taxes. There are lots of ways to protest but I do NOT want to do so in a way that will come across more negative when the FAIRTAX is a HUGE POSTITIVE... *****HUGE*****. It is currently the ONLY piece of legislation that will give us freedom like we haven't had since pre 1913!

EDUCATION...in EVERYWAY SHAPE and FORM needs to continue as well as taking action by making phone calls to those offices both in DC and in one's district/state!

Goooo FairTax!!! What if at the TEA Parties more and more and MORE FairTaxers start making themselves seen, heard and educating those around them?
We have not fully educated everyone. Exhausting that is the first recourse.
Thank you very much, Jamie.
I like the grassroots momentum. But is there a way to break into serious media exposure to augment this strongly?
I ask again about repealing the 16th Amendment BY INITIATIVE direct from the people. Would this:
1) Help gain more grassroots support by asking for signatures
2) Get notice from the media if on a few state ballots
3) Be a path to EDUCATING every single voter through voter's guide overview.
This is legal, does not require politician agreement, and augments all other Fair Tax actions.

How can you do an initiative in states that do not allow them on ballots? Or am I not understanding something?
Thank you very much, Jim.
I am learning. This issue is one to consider. My quick answer is to emphasize first those that allow this. We need 75% of the states (38) to repeal a constitutional amendment. How many states do not allow initiatives?
But one key goal is to "threaten" politicians that we will go around them. I think we need not do that in every state so moving. We might get some through means we seek now. And the KEY goal is education as Jamie injected into this discussion.

I want to bring back the "civil disobedience" question in parallel with other questions.
Some have objected to "breaking the law" to protest against IRS. There are (I surmise) two reasons for this:
1) They do not want to do something objectively unlawful ("breaking" the law).
2) They do not want "repercussions" (confiscation of assets, jail, etc.).
I understand 2 and that is an issue unless large numbers of people coordinate (which we might be able to arrange). But, back to #1. Is not paying or filing Income tax illegal? Or is the Income Tax legal? The answer perhaps should be promoted widely (as education, Jamie).
See the first hour especially of this video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173# .
Is the income tax legal? Likely it is not objectively legal. Forceful (#2) not much doubt, but is it legal? Then is not filing or paying income tax legal?
Should Americans not explore this question?
This might help promote the Fair Tax.
-ABE
Oweing money is not illegal.

Not filing is illegal.

Having a peaceful protest may be illegal in some instances.

Is the income tax legal? I would not even want to go down that road. We will be lumped in with the anti-tax people. The average person understands that the country needs funds to exist.
