Christo, Sean,
I stand corrected re FFTEA oversight. I need to observe my own advice.
Re FFTEA not being a part of this (FTN) group is incorrect. It is definitely a part of this group. That is why Jim T asked to have it's leaders listed and asked Miss Fair Tax to be the Florida FairTax Nation group moderator.

Larry,

First of all, I wasn't responding to your comments - I was responding to Linda's.

I did fail to mention that AFFT is a non-profit, but I don't believe anyone here on Fair Tax Nation thinks that AFFT is directly related to FTN in any way, manner or form. Just as I don't view FFTEA as being directly related to FTN since you have your own name and web site. As Christo mentioned, I also prefaced my statement with "To the best of my knowledge..". So I don't believe my comments warranted your stinging personal attack. If you don't like me then just come out and say so; although I have no idea what I've ever done to you.

Christo - thank you for the support.

I concur with Larry and Miss FairTax. When I entered my last comment about Belida Noah, I was just passing my impression of her at that time. I do not publicly endorse any candidate when I am participating in any Fair Tax activities or wearing Fair Tax gear, which I do every day (as to which Larry can attest).
This site should be for discussion about the Fair Tax and ways we can help each other with ideas to further educate the ignorant ( as opposed to stupid).
We should not lose sight of our prime issue, passage and implementation of the Fair Tax. In this vein, I am pleading that we temper our comments and keep on plugging the Fair Tax.

For Tomasik, yes. the IRS would pick a fight with one of us. In a group like ours it is the easiest way for them to set an example to the others of what can be done.
How brave would Sean, Jim, Christo, Virginia be if I were taken out by the IRS for an infraction of their rules? How many of you would contribute to a defense fund?
And the IRS may not revoke the 501(C)(3) status of FFTEA or the 501(C)(4) status of AFFT but they would get a stearn warning unless there were other instances of infractions in which case they would revoke the status.
Miss FairTax explained the importance of the c-3 status to contributors.

Sean- I clearly stated in my original comment about the 501(C)(x) status of AFFT and FFTEA and Miss Fair Tax stated the 501(C)(3) Status of FFTEA in her following comment.
But you either failed to read those lines or decided to ignore them when you stated that to your knowledge there were no non-profit groups here. Try reading slower and shooting slower still.
ALL- FTN is a great platform for discussing the FairTax and how to help each other learn more and get better at educating the uninformed. In that light it needs to be maintained as a positive communications environment about this wonderful thing called the FairTax.

If you feel a need to promote or argue about what candidate to support or not, there are other platforms that will accomodate that kind of forum.
Once again it isn't my or Miss FairTax's wish to censor but we want to protect the one that brought us to the party, Americans For Fair Taxation. Possibly we are overly concerned but I think it is better to err on the side of safe in this regard.
The momentum is building for the FairTax and we need to spend more time talking to the ignorant than the choir about it. Let's get this thing done. When was the last time you communicated with your representatives? When was the last time you helped someone else communicate with their representatives?
We have a lot to lose if we fail and a lot to gain when we win. Saving America is no small task.

To the best of my knowledge Fair Tax Nation nor any of its groups (including the Florida FairTax group) are non-profits. The FFTEA is a non-profit but it is completely separate from FTN. I would think that while Miss FairTax is a member of the BOD of FFTEA, anything she says here she says as an individual and not as a board member of a non-profit - although I must admit I don't know how sharply that line is drawn.

That being said, I do wonder what is so great and important about being a non-profit. I mean, if we spend every penny we take in from donations or money made from selling FairTax items/gear - then there is no profit and therefore no subsequent taxes to be paid. Sure, we'd probably have to do some bookkeeping and file a tax return but there is no tax on zero income - and I'm not aware of any group like ours that are actually making money. Of course, I don't know all of the IRS rules and regs that cover organizations like ours so I might be missing something. In my opinion, and taking into account what Miss FairTax said in her post, if we can't endorse candidates (from any political party) who support the FairTax (as if our endorsement would mean anything anyway), then non-profit status just isn't worth it.

I also think Miss FairTax should name names, but that decision is up to her.

Well said Jim, like Sam, my sentiments too.

My sentiments exactly Jim.

Talk away.

This site does not contribute to campaigns in any way.

There is nothing wrong with talking about the differences in candidates.

Also, do any of you really think the IRS would be stupid enough to attack FairTax activist groups over this site?

Wow! A lot said. I appreciate the update on the logic behind Miss Fair Tax's comments. I think the thing that upset readers most was, "Let's not turn it in to a political forum, lest we be ousted for same." I'm sure no one intends to turn this into a politica forum, but in reality everything we say in groups like this is political. How much more political can we get than drying to dump the IRS? As for me, the matter's settled and forgotten. Let's get on with the goal of urging and informing others about the Fair Tax.

Last evening I participated in The Fair Tax Webinar and would recommend others to do the same next time it becomes available. More info on that can be found on FairTax.Org. A great meeting. The wonders of technology! . . . Another beautiful day in Florida.
