In principle I can't disagree with you folks but you must consider that we are trying to get rid of the IRS who is the organization that issues the 501(c)(x) permits.
In other words, AFFT (fairtax.org) being a 501(c)(4) and FFTEA (FLFairTax.org) being a 501-(c)(3) prohibits us from making any statement for or against any Candidate for elected office under penalty of having our non-profit status revoked.
Considering the term Candidate, we can discuss who is running, supporting, not supporting but can go no further by saying something that promotes one over another in any way.
There are I THINK some irregularities here on FTN. Florida FairTax Nation is not a 501(c)(anything) so the rules would not apply. If this were named Florida FairTax Educational Association, then there would be restriction on what is said.
I think to be safe we should just limit our communications to what is happening (report the news don't make the news) and avoid any kind of endorsements or promotions of a candidate.
I agree with Christo, Clay & Virginia. Putting information on this site as to which candidates support the FairTax is in part what this is all about. I don't think anyone is telling others how to vote they are just posting information. I first heard about Marco Rubio looking into running from Huckabee. Marco endorsed Huckabee. This is just information. I hope other members will post any info they have.
I too agree with Christo and Clay. I do not think that anyone is " losing site of the big picture" the only thing political is making certain we elect U.S. Senators who are in favor of The Fair Tax and who will vote for it. That's what we are here for.
I agree with Christo. No one is attempting to force their opinion on anyone. Florida residents have many choices when it comes to selecting a new U.S. Senator. If this is a site that threatens "Free Speech" then maybe its one we need to think seriously about. I think its extremely short sighted to threaten to "oust" someone. You do what you've gotta do. Let the chips fall where they may.
Belinda Noah came and spoke to the Orlando Meetup Group last year. She definitely is a Fair Tax supporter. However, she was not as conversant with the plan as a person running on that as her platform should be. We gave her some pointers at that time and suggested she study the bill and read the two books again. She seemed genuinely interested in adopting the Fair Tax. However, time will tell.
I was at AFA website, Christian News and they had 'Tea Party' support order TeaShirts, etc, well I asked them if they would support FairTax, still waiting.
I listen to Talk Radio and NPR, about equally. As a general rule, I find more balanced reporting fromNPR, but that is to be expected.
I recently listened to a number of good analysees (?) on NPR of the demise of SS, Medicare and Medicaid and what were possible ways to help them last longer.
Then, I sent emails to NPR.org - Contact Us - and MarketPlace.org praising them on their work, followed up by asking if they were afraid to do a Research Report on FairTax.org and how it would affect SS, MCare, and Medicaid.
When enough pressure is applied from enough of us, maybe they will do a real analysis for us and report it to the many people from the right and the left who do listen to Public Radio.
Please send an email to NPR.org and to MarketPlace.org asking them to investigate FairTax.org.
The nature of the FairTax will limit the revenue recieved by government but will not directly curtail spending as long as they can borrow or print money for their wants. A balanced budget amendment will work only if the word "emergency" is finely defined. Otherwise everything will be an emergency.
Term limits will help some too. If we fired every one of them the new congress could only address those issues of utmost importance like defense, immigration and infrastructure. I'd guess 95% of the other stuff will fall into the cracks.
