Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

POINTERS

First, you need to identify your three federal legislators, if you don’t already know who they are:

Congressman: Go to www.house.gov , enter your zip code, and when you get to your Congressman's web page, look for the "Contact Us" or "Office Locations" information for phone or fax.

Senators: www.senate.gov , enter your zip code, and get your Senators' names – click on their names for their web page and look for the "Contact Us" or "Office Locations" information for phone or fax.

If your Congressman and two Senators are not co-sponsors of the FairTax, you could ask them to co-sponsor the bill. You could do this either by faxing a letter, or by calling their respective tax legislative aides in Washington, D.C. E-mails are acceptable, but often ignored. Calls and faxed letters are more effective.

To find out whether or not your three federal legislators are co-sponsors, you can check this link to our website -- http://www.fairtaxvolunteer.org/scorecards/index.html

From there, you'll have to find your state, your Congressman, and your Senators to see if they are co-sponsors.

If they are not yet co-sponsors, we encourage you to ask your Congressman and your two Senators to co-sponsor the FairTax bill (HR 25/S 1493). They need to hear from you. As you prepare to call them or write them letters, it would be a good idea to take a look at the following link on our website:

http://www.fairtaxvolunteer.org/opinion/index.html which provides sample letters

and, as you will see, http://www.fairtaxvolunteer.org/smart/sketch.html outlines what the FairTax will do.

Where you have senators and/or congressman on the bill already please call and thank him for his efforts. Please call the White House (202-456-1414), the Treasury Department – John Snow (202-622-1100), and the Commerce Department – Don Evans (202-482-2112).

In addition, here is a list of some of the most important benefits of the FairTax:

The FairTax –
a) brings good jobs back to America, rather than exporting them to other countries, like our income tax does today

b) taxes the trillion-dollar underground economy, as well as all the current tax-evading cash proceeds of the criminal/drug/porn economy

c) allows you to keep 100% of your paycheck (minus any state income tax), pension, and Social Security checks

d) eliminates the IRS and frees up time and money wasted filling out cumbersome IRS forms, to the tune of $250 billion a year, equal to 3% of our Gross Domestic Product

e) allows families to save more for home ownership, education, and retirement

f) ensures that no American pays federal tax on necessities up to the poverty level

Your letters should conclude with a polite request for your congressman and your senators to co-sponsor the FairTax bill:

"Compared to other tax reform proposals, the FairTax offers the greatest possible benefits for all Americans. As a constituent, I would like to see you co-sponsor the FairTax bill."

Will they or won't they? If not, why not? And then patiently go through the process of responding to the next set of objections until your congressman and senators finally understand that this is an election year, and plenty of their constituents really want them to co-sponsor the FairTax. You are speaking for many of their constituents, and they know that. Please don't give up until they either sign on to the bill or are replaced.

Getting the Congressman and Senators to co-sponsor the bill may take several letters from several constituents, but that's how our political system works. They probably have other objections that they’re not mentioning right now. But as you establish a polite but persistent relationship with them, they will bring up these objections, which can then also be answered.

Effective lobbying takes patience, politeness, and persistence. I'm sure that you can deliver on all three of these characteristics.

Thanks for your efforts on behalf of the FairTax – we do appreciate them.
