Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

I am new to the Fair Tax and am still trying to learn what this would mean to us as taxpayers. Should we succeed in getting the Fair Tax put into place, this would mean the US would have to repeal the 16th Amendment in order for it to work-so it would have to be conconcurrent movements. What would keep the states from "exercising their rights" and start their own "state, city or county" income taxes if they so chose to do so? It would appear that the 26% would work only if all other entities would not put a tax or fee on anything else...would someone chime in here and help me with this? Thanks...Elyse

Thank you, Elyse, for your interest and support. I have been supporting FairTax since 1997 and I am determined to make it happen.

There is now a push to repeal the 16th Amendment regardless of any other tax consideration. Then the Congress would need to go back to sales, excise, and other taxes that the voters would support. At the Jacksonville FL rally a couple of weeks ago, I think I heard that 23 states have already started this process. It only takes 34 states to start the repeal.

The states are, in my mind, a separate issue. States are free to tax up to a voter rebellion. Many states and some cities/counties already have income taxes. As you might have heard, people give all money made to governments up until some time in June, after which they are tax free. That is, about half of a person's earnings already go into taxes of one form or another.

With the current waste, fraud and abuse of the Congress-Money axis our debt grows while our industry dies. The FairTax avoids taxing production so that the cost of US goods will drop to balance the 23% tax on consumption. I am expecting that my purchases of US goods with the 23% FairTax will cost me no more. This drop in the cost of US goods and the absence of any business income tax should result in a great growth in individual wealth through businesses and jobs moving back to the USA. Growth in business & jobs should cause growths in the wealth of all individuals. More money for savings and purchases should then be available so that money to reduce out massive debt and for government (Social Security, Medicare, etc. etc.) services should grow.
