Special Interests groups

Recently, at a speaking event in my own town a member of the Veterans for foreign wars asked me a question that fair tax supporters get asked the most. After hearing about the many benefits of the fair tax and the principles that guide it he refreshed my memory about all the corrupt filters and leaders that legislation has to go through and asked me "It sounds good, but can it ever get passed"?

In answering this question I want to remind us all of a greater power. The declaration of independence says and I quote "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

Government is made up of many elements. It is no longer the basic three branches, but also various invisible branches known as the special interests. For several minutes the member of the veterans for foreign wars tried to convince himself that the fair tax has a chance by watching my reaction to his endless concerns about the obstacles all around it. I replied by saying “There are over 35,000 lobbyists in Washington, but there are over 300 million Americans living in the United States. There are 535 members of congress, but there are over 100 million jobs that are provided through American small businesses that is the business group that will receive among the greatest benefits of the fair tax. Some feel that the words in the declaration of independence are out of date because the special interests have complete control, but they have forgotten something.

Whether it is by direct control through delagated leadership or indirect by population ignorance, government still get’s their power from the people. Some could say “The figures that you are showing assume that 100% of the American people will support the fair tax and that is impossible.” They would be right in saying so. There is no way that we will gain 100% of American support for the fair tax, but we can gain a majority. Ronald Reagan Once said “All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” Change starts when the individual decides that enough is enough and they are going to do something about it. I dare anyone to try and convince me that when the national dept is reaching double digits in the realm of trillions of dollars, when the cost of living has gone not just through the roof, but all the way to the stars that the American courage and wisdom will go completely extinct and the spirit of liberty is completely dead. Care to take a shot?

We will get this thing passed. Don’t you dare give up, walk disheartened or choose to remain discouraged. Do not give up! Stand strong, free and bold!
