"Simply put, because the current income tax system favors the power and profit motives of Members of Congress and an army of wealthy and powerful lobbyists. Only a strong and growing voice from the public will change this political reality, even now in the midst of the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Our biggest enemy in this fight is skepticism -- after years of struggling with a broken tax system, it can be hard for a lot of people to believe that the FairTax can actually:

Enable workers to keep their entire paycheck—to pay their mortgages and keep their homes
Enable retirees to keep their entire pension
Eliminate all federal taxes on every American up to the poverty level
Allow American products to compete in the global economy—bringing back the "Made in the USA" label
Close all federal tax loopholes
Abolish the IRS
And, most importantly, save the American economy

It’s time to stand up to the lobbyists and Washington insiders. It’s time to put an end to decades of lucrative loopholes that benefit a handful of special interests. It's time to end the too common practice of our politicians to pit Americans of different income levels against each other in tax debates. It’s time to take back our country and leave it a better place for our children and grandchildren."
