Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25
I think I see a new political party forming.
FairTax will be part of it's platform along with term limits.

I've always thought that conservative types were just at work and wouldn't take time off to vote. That has been my hope since Dole vs. Clinton. (I could give mules lessons.)
Does anyone have an idea of the # of people who don't have a party, but would vote for 3rd party?
I liked what GBrittian did in their last elections.

Miss Fair Tax,
What did you read recently about Libartarians and Health Care? The sound of your comment make me think you got a hold of some disinformation. True libertarians believe in small government. Any kind of government health care proposal is offensive to me. We believe in free markets and maintain that the problems in health care today are a result of too much government involvement, not too little.
As for the Constitution Party, while I do agree with some of their positions, they have come to be dominated by the Religious Right and often seem more interested in promoting the bible than the constitution.

I am not the official spokesperson for the LP so I have to qualify how I answer your excellant question. First off, the Fair Tax, as a political idea, is fairly new. It has really caught fire in this grass roots movement, but I don't think the Fair Tax was a serious issue prior to the 2008 election cycle. This has really taken the country by storm.
By way of contrast, the Libertarian Party has a platform which is adopted by the convention of delegates that is conveined every two years. (It is ironic that for all our loathing of beauracracy, we have become one in our own right.) This process prevents the party apparatus from responding quickly to political oportunities. But it does not prevent individuals who are members from holding our own views, and acting upon them. I support the Fair Tax to the extent that I feel this is a good way to achieve goals consistent with Libertarianism; limited government, economic freedom, individual liberty, etc. To me the Fair Tax is not the end goal, just one possible way to reduce the size, cost and power of the federal governmnt. I have yet to meet a Fair Tax supporter who wants to see this used to INCREASE the size, cost and power of the federal government. We seem to have this consesus that government is too big.
Now, in 2010 the Libertarian Party will meet somewhere east of the Mississippi. I would like to extend an invitation to all of you Fair Tax supporters to join us and work to make the Fair Tax an official part of our platform.
You stand a greater chance of influencing the LP than the GOP. The LP is not opposed to your principles and we are better established than any other third party. The only other alternative is to create your own party from scratch. Trust me, that is a lot of work.

As with all new 'parties' there is no nationwide base for local support. Even if a president was elected under a new party there would be no S/HR support for any of his/her plans or goals. It would have to be a big sweep to include both S/HR. That is why so many independent parties fail, no nationwide local support.

The only way to get instant recall voting is to elect a majority that is not Democrat OR Republican.

I'm not so sure. Seems like the third party always splits the Republican vote. So wouldn't it stand to reason that they would be in favor of it. If the 3rd party was in last place, most of that candidates votes would go to the Republican. Of course, if the Republican was in third place, which I think would happen if the elections were today, he'd loose. -Debbie

Just like they worked together to pass McCain's Campaign Finance Reform: AKA the Incumbent Protection Act.

There is noting wrong with starting a new party so we can all talk with other like-minded folks, but I also think that we have to participate with the Red and Blue teams to try to get them thinking our way, at least at the mrgins.
