Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

We all have met folks who have heard of the Fair Tax and some who have not heard of it. How can you tell them about it in less than a minute and drive home this wonderful idea that we own? If it isn't short and sweet and to the point you will get that glazed over look on their face and you have lost them. There is plenty of time to fully explain the idea later in a more educational setting. I'm not saying I have the perfect elevator speech but it should go something like this. The Fair Tax? What is it? Well, let me ask you this. 1) How would you like to take home your whole paycheck? 2) How would you like a check from the government for approximately $500 each month for a family of 4? 3) How would you like to never have to fill out income tax forms again?
Obviously this needs cleaning up but this is what we have to do if we are going to grab someone's attention. Our society lives by sound bytes and this is exactly what we need. How about some help with this concept? Thanks, Harry

Thanks for the input. There are holes in both approaches.
Harry,
That's a good elevator speech. Mine is pretty close but more broad-brushed. My elements are: 1) How would you like to decide instead of the IRS how much tax you pay and when you pay it? 2) How would you like to keep your entire check? 3) How would you like to "do your taxes" at the check out counter instead of on April 15 - and walk away from the checkout counter with no chance of an IRS audit?

4) Would you like to know that the Fair Tax is a consumption tax that fully funds the federal government at current spending levels? 5) Would you like to know that the Fair Tax is fair to low-income people? [Alternative appeal to greed: Would you like to get a check from the govennment every month to un-tax you for spending on essentials?] 6) Would you like to know there is $23 million worth of research that says the Fair Tax will work?

7) Would you like to know that over 15% of the House co-sponsored the Fair Tax in the last Congress? [Come-back to the jibe that "it will never happen."]

...

We need to have these speeches ready to take down from the shelf and dust off.

on 7... IMHO, it is better to say we have 75 congressmen and senators cosponsoring the FairTax bill. Most people don't know how many there are anyway.
very good points. I'll be using several of them. Thanks for replying, Harry
> Under our Constitution there was almost no way that an average citizen of the United States would ever have to deal with the federal government. Under the income tax there is no way for any of us to avoid it. When you change from one situation to the other you change from freedom to tyranny!
Depending on how the conversation goes, I'll mention that the FairTax eliminates both the social security and medicare taxes yet fully funds it.

The young waiter I was talking to at the restaurant earlier this week is indicative of the young having no faith in ever seeing Social Security yet seeing it taken out of their paycheck.
