Fair Tax Nation

Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Lottery Winners will get their ENTIRE winnings under the FairTax!! What happened to this & other lottery winners is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

Twenty-three year old rancher from Pierre SD will only take home $88.5 million in a lump sum payment after taxes are deducted from the "$232.1M" WINNINGS.
That is absolutely WRONG...WRONG...WRONG... and the FairTax would make this FAIR! He would receive his ENTIRE winnings of $232.1Million under the FairTax legislation!

This is another point we need to start bringing home. HEY ALL YOU LOTTERY PLAYERS OUT THERE.....bet me that the lottery playing migh increase a tad, but if not at least the winners won't have their winnings syphoned off before their first payment!

This was an article in our paper today and thought it ought to be made known!! When we EDUCATE others as well as when we write letters to the editor!!!

If this wouldn't make you passionate for this legislation what would?

I did the math yesterday when I saw this on tv. You're absolutely correct, this is outrageous!! How on earth does this happen in the USA?!? This ought to make any red blooded American furious, regardless of how you became a legal American!! This just makes my blood boil. Absolutely incredible. ......like the government could make better use of that money than that individual. Laughable if it weren't so tragic.

I hope a Fair Tax speaker points this out at a Tea Party. Maybe Neal or Rep. Linder will mention it at the Midwest Fair Tax Rally.
I think the $232.1 Million is if you take it spread out over a certain amount of years. The lump sum reduces it quite a bit. But, the point of too much tax is a valid one.
Do you have a link to this?
Don't know the link, but I do know that the ticket was purchased in Winner, SD.
There were 200+ stories of this "SD Lottery winner" A lot of papers to hit w/ FairTAx. One link from San Diego:

From a political standpoint I think this is an issue to be left alone. Sure, those people who already support the Fair Tax can see the absurdity of this, but I don't think the general public will feel much sympathy, or outrage over a guy only getting 88 million dollars. This reinforces the notion that the fair tax will help millionaires.
On the contrary, this issue needs to be highlighted. It illustrates the absurdity and increasing onerous nature of the federal income tax code. Pointing out that a person can be taxed 63% on income will only put the Fair Tax in a more favorable light. Failing to do so for the reason you state only fosters the notion of class warfare. It needs to be emphasized The Fair Tax is fair precisely because it does not favor one economic class over another but instead taxes people according to their ability and freedom of choice to pay.
Well that is certainly one approach and by all means if you think that will present the Fair Tax in a more favorable light then go for it. I respectfully disagree. This issue feeds right into the class warfare argument. At best you might make a convert our of this guy who bought the winning ticket, but you are not going to persuade anyone else.

Your argument on the fairness of the fair tax is OK, but people will not support the fair tax because they think it will treat others fairly. They will support it only if they think they will be better off. This example does not prove that.
I agree with Strawman. Its hard for the average person to feel bad about a guy who gets $88 million in cash. Five of us were talking about this on the way back from Tallahassee, FL yesterday. Not a single person commented on the fairness of him only getting $88 million vs $122 million. Sadly to say, I didn't even comment about how he would have kept the entire amount under the Fair Tax. I've made a mental note of that and will in the future :-).
> If you think about it the lottery is just another tax. First off 50% usually goes to government ( they say schools). Then the governments get their bull share of the rest at tax time. Of course a few get a big payout, but that's the cost of the hype keeping the game going.
Standing and doing nothing is not the answer. Whether its a lottery winner or my overtime pay.....it matters to us all.
The lottery is something many "poor" people play and so not only with they BENEFIT...it will also treat ALL lottery players fair! What about those who to go to Casinos? Shoot I know of retirement facilities that take bus loads and guess what happens to them if the WIN? TAX...O....LAH...kah ching! Under the FairTax it wouldn't matter if one was poor and living in a retirement center, or rich and going to Las Vegas the end result would be the same. WINNER takes home the whole sum because the Federal Government can NO LONGER tax anyone's INCOME no matter HOW IT IS MADE!!!! THIS ISSUE will get AVERAGE Americans "THINKING"....challenging the status quo because there are lotteries that give a certain percent to schools and ... and ... and ... This is a HUGE issue to bring up to AWAKEN the SLEEPING masses!!!
