Columbus FairTaxers, please feel welcome to attend the Marion, OH Fair Tax meeting on June 23 at 7 pm to 8 pm at the Marion Public Library, located at 445 E. Church St., Marion, OH, 43302. Marion is a straight shot up US Rt 23 and is rougly 40 miles north of you.
The Dayton, OH area has a Tea Party meet-up that met Monday and will meet again on June 15th at the Scor Sports Bar in Bellbrook. Come and bring a friend. Billie in Beavercreek
I'm checking with the Columbus Tea Party frequently. The exact location has yet to be announced. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated. If any of you are aware of Tea Parties forming in your area, please post them. The sooner you find out the better.
I'm not good at it yet, either, Billie! But I'll be there wearing my FairTax shirt and carrying my Fair Tax sign. Any other folks that can make it, please come.
As much as I have done this I still am not really good at passing the word; but I saw where John Kasich was having an event TODAY, June 1st at 5 p.m. in Westerville. I thought if you were interested you could check it out. Hope the link works.
Billie, my first question to flat taxers is, "Where can I find your research?" and my second, "Isn't that the way our present tax code started?" I'd want to know if it's Arlen Spector's bill from this year, or the one from Rep. Burgess some years back, or any other flat tax proposal there is/was out there.
I think folks really need answers to these questions. Of course, they'll see which one comes out on top.
We went to the FairTax vs Flat Tax to see why anyone would be in favor of Flat Tax. Flat Tax is on INCOME and FairTax is on CONSUMPTION. With Flat Tax the more you make the more taxes you pay. With FairTax you can earn as much as you possibly can and you pay NO federal income tax. It is when you go out and spend on new goods and services that you pay taxes. They talked about converting from the current system to both taxes and it will be easier to convert to Flat Tax; because that is what we have now. They also made points for Flat Tax as it is proposed, none that sounds good to me because Congress will constantly make changes; but they did a great debate. Billie in Beavercreek
I just spoke with Congressman Tiberi's office. Prior to this conversation, I had not realized that Tiberi is on the Ways and Means Committee. Interesting.
I posed this question: Congressman Tiberi is the only rep. in Ohio that supports the Fair Tax, not a cosponsor, but supports it, and why is he not speaking out openly and publicly about this issue? I then urged that he become proactive on this issue in a very public way. I pointed out that this is a non partisan issue, embraced by Americans across the political spectrum, then highlighted pertinent facts as to why this issue is a "now" issue. Knowing that Rep. Rangel is chair of Ways and Means clearly indicates that public debate and discussion is vital to moving HR 25 out of committee.
Tiberi needs to hear from Ohio FairTaxers, in large numbers and often. Don't hesitate to call and give him your input, even if you're out of state. I think I'll check with a few others here and see if maybe a meeting should be set up with Tiberi and reps from AFFT. What say you all?
I got the time wrong for the FairTax vs Flat Tax challenge and showed up at 3 pm!! So I missed it! I had my mother with me and we couldn't hang around in Columbus for 3 hours. I was so mad at myself, I could have spit nails.
Billie, if anything stands out in your mind from this event, please share.
