Maryland Grassroot Organization
Has any one here seen the Attack ad on Andy Harris's (MD District 1) support for the FairTax? I am trying to find the ad to help respond to it and send letters to have this ad pulled. I am working with FairTax.org to put out the truth about the FairTax. IF you can help with letter writing to editriol section of newspaper and elected ...officals and canidates. it would be much appricated. I am tring to re-form a Grassroots orgization in MD to educate the Marylanders. Please let me know if you are willing to help with this effort.
Thanks

Mark

Hi Mike I have to agree with some of your comments. We need change and that can be accomplished; but not with FairTax. FairTax is the way to collect our taxes. Control has to come from Congress and we have no way of knowing how they will vote once they get in. I am hoping that Huckabee has a better idea of the people running than I. I also was hoping that the people of Maryland would input any thoughts that they have on any candidates. We need people that will co-sponsor FairTax.

BTW, this was my response:

Hi Mike,

I think you miss the whole point of the Fair Tax. I do NOT disagree with the quote below however, the Fair Tax is not meant "to solve the underlying cause of high taxation, which is excessive government spending". Whether the income tax is 1% or 90% it is still a deficient system. It lacks transparency, easily abused and punishes success (among many other problems). The Fair Tax is a bipartisan proposal which has been called the "largest transfer of power from the gov't to the people since the Constitution". It is a means of getting the Federal gov't out of peoples lives and stopping the gov't from using the income tax to control and manipulate its citizens while allowing every special interest group to fill politicians coffers by lobbying for their own loophole.

By the way, every "Con" outlined in the link below has thoroughly been debunked. I am not saying the Fair Tax is perfect but it is orders of magnitude better than the corrupt system we have today. Over 350 Billion dollars is spent on tax compliance every year (paper pushing). You want to decrease gov't spending, that's a good place to start.

Also, while I do agree with you about illegal aliens and the lack of accountability, it once again has nothing to do with the Fair Tax.

Best of luck with the election,
Max

Sent a message to Mike Vallerie in MD. Below is his response. He just doesn't get it and his last comment about providing different functions just means more gov't control

Dear Max,

http://www.karlonia.com/2007/04/16/fair-tax-pros-and-cons/

"The Fair Tax does nothing to solve the underlying cause of high taxation, which is excessive government spending. As long as the federal government keeps spending taxpayer dollars on things that it has no business being involved with in the first place, it will continue to require high taxes in order to finance its expenditures, including the increasing cost of the national debt. Simply changing the method of taxation is not going to change the root causes of unfair taxes."

The current system is obviously failing, primarily because we don't police the system, (Like we don’t close the border, both could easily be accomplished).

We need a system of accountability. We need to know who is in this country and we need to know who isn't paying their taxes. When you file a tax return you are affirming your residency and you are affirming that you contribute to our society.

The only other system that affirms residency of non property owners is motor vehicle administration. The internal revenue service is a cross check of sorts or should be. Without these two systems we would have no idea who is in this country!

When it comes to social security benefits I want to know that tax paying residences are the receivers of benefits.

The fair tax would be a fairer tax system, However I think we need the system to provide additional functions.

Thanks

Mike Vallerie

I attended a local GOP club Meeting in Frederick Maryland last Wednesday evening. They had Eric Wargtoz, a republican candidate for the US Senate to discuss the Health Care Bill. Eric is a Doctor and was there to relate his thoughts.

I approached him at the end of the meeting and discussed the FairTax with him. He was confused between the FairTax and the Flat Tax. We discussed the differences and how the FairTax would be better for the country. Eric stated that he like what heard and will do more research on the FairTax. I have emailed Eric information and further stated the FairTax benefits. If you are in Maryland or else where please contact Eric and ask for his support.
Eric can be reached at eric@wargotzforussenate.org or call him at 410.827.0183.

One month until the Netroots Conference!

Netroots Nation will take place from August 13-16, 2009 in Pittsburgh, PA at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. http://www.netrootsnation.com/

We need a team leader who will be responsible for setting up and taking down the booth -- and spend time as needed to make sure our booth is staffed.

We need three volunteers to staff the booth for this event.

We are also in need of funds to purchase materials for the booth!
Please mail donations to:
Illinois Fair Tax
P.O. 808
Oak Forest, IL 60452

Pay pal: fairtaxnow@aol.com
or through links on www.FairTaxNation.com or www.ilfairtax.org

Of course there are many other important events both in DC and locally where FairTax needs to have a presence. Any excess funds collected will be used to fund our presence at additional events.

Remember -- donations are not tax deductible!

Thank you for your help as we move FairTax forward!

Please contact me to volunteer!

Questions? Just ask!
