Communicating the fair tax
Recentlly met with a hostory professor at my college campus. After my conversation with him, I felt that we have a good start towards establishing afair tax coilition in ontario and shelby.In the fall He willallow one of our representatives to comeinto his class,give an explanation of what the fair tax is and debate the appossing view and answer the questions posed by students afterwords. This is an awesomeoppertunity and it will be our chance to generate interest for the fair tax on campus which may eventally allow us to give a campus wide presentation of it and eventually establish a student club for the fair tax. This will allow us to use campus recourcesfor radio broadcasting, event organizing,etc...
In shelby I plan to schedule the first fair tax meeting for next month.The editor of the shelby dailyglobe has already agreed to list the event in the localpaper and my goal with her, since the paper can not print articles based on opinion, will be to invite the shelby dailyglobe and the news journal to come to view the event and ask questions based on the event itself.
We talk so much about the means by which is best to broadcast the fair tax (radion,television, flyers etc..),but lets not forget to plan out our audience. For example, when speaking to democrats about the fair tax I would emphasise the revenue nuetrality of the fair tax, untaxing those below the poverty line, job creation,cealing up the taxcode etc.. With rebublicans I would emphasize the reduction in government compliance and pressure to reduce spending,job creation, compatability that the fair tax will bring. Before your meeting with the group starts, walk in andintroduce yourself individually to as many as you can, tell a joke and break the ice.
Remember that most have heard many different people telling them that they have the solution to our economic ills and they are sick of it so try to present yourself as a human being rather than a tax consultant. Ha ha ha... I would stronglyurge you to go to every meeting, write every letter and hold every conversation about the fair tax with purpose. When I talked to a history professor recently he asked me "What do you want me to do with this"? He didn't want to hear just a rabling on and on... he wanted purpose in what I was trying to convince him of. Speakwith purpose, answer with wisdom and articulatewith grace.
