Steve Curtis's most recent column published by the Fairborn Daily Herald is titled "The FairTax and imports". He is very clear in his explanations. Anyone who cannot understand this piece is only possible if they don't want to understand it. I encourage all of you to look these columns up on www.ohfairtax.org and share them with your friends. And if you are so inclined, let the Fairborn Daily Herald know that you appreciate the fact that they know how important the issue of tax reform is. Give them a call or write a letter to the Editor. Hope you're all having a great weekend.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED

MSNBC initiated a poll today, “How Would You Improve the Tax Code?"

Their four ballot options did not include the "FairTax", but you can vote to ELIMINATE THE INCOME TAX AND CREATE A NATIONAL SALES TAX INSTEAD. Right now, the Flat Tax is in 1st place and “Eliminate the income tax and create a national sales tax instead” is in third place.

If we are to make FairTax a household word and the ONLY legitimate option for replacing the current tax code, we must take advantage of every opportunity to voice our opinion. If we don't speak out, the Flat Taxers will trumpet this poll as the pulse of the nation and nothing will change in Washington.

You do not have to register with MSNBC to cast your vote, however, we encourage you to add a comment stating that you specifically support the FairTax. Adding comments will require that you register. A small inconvenience to stand up in a big way for the FairTax.

Had a very good time at tonight's monthly meeting here in Fairborn. A dozen of us came together to discuss what we've done so far and ways to advance the FairTax, other tax reform groups, and other items of interest. One really neat topic was the idea of creating a video for You-Tube about the FairTax. Our guest speaker (John Anderson) was not able to make it, but we also discussed his contract with voters, and in particular, item 3, which is all about supporting the FairTax. Something his republican opponent will NOT support. If you want to learn more about this candidate you can visit his website at www.johnandersonforcongress.com. We also had a local candidate for county commisioner (Bruce Hull) come out to join our group.

Thanks to Roush's for providing us a very nice meeting location, to those who came out, and to our local paper for providing the announcements of our meetings.

The Grassroots Spotlight - Al Ose

We asked the top FairTax letter to the editor expert, Al Ose, to explain the secret to his success.

We FairTaxers have a burning desire to pass the FairTax plan and writing a letter to the editor releases some of that energy and feels great!

In order to create interest in a letter to the editor it’s helpful to start out with a current event or problem and thread the FairTax into your story. This approach allows the writer to describe how passage of the FairTax might impact the event and solve the problem.

As you write your letter you may determine that you need to conduct additional FairTax research. Well researched and factual statements will always make for strong letters. Keep in mind, not all letters will be printed, but don’t become discouraged. Keep writing! When the paper's editor sees more and more letters on the FairTax, they will be more inclined to publish more opinions.

Lastly, I can’t tell you how important numbers are. When your newspaper starts printing multiple FairTax letters from different people, we’ll gain more credibility and many new supporters.

I began writing letters to the editor in January of ’99 when I realized I could reach a much larger audience for the FairTax using newspapers as a communication vehicle. I quickly realized that writing letters to many editors provided compound interest. I researched and found email addresses for newspaper editors. During the past ten years I’ve sent letters to these 81 editors across Wisconsin. To date I’ve had at least 156 letters published.

End tax blame game by enacting Fair Tax – NJ.com

…This holiday (a cut in Social Security payroll deductions) is a political blame game with both parties trying to win votes, but not helping the people who rely on Social Security. This so-called holiday will cause underfunding, and will hurt unemployed or retired workers who no longer contribute to Social Security. Let’s find a better solution.

Take a bold approach to business expansion in this country by enacting House Resolution 25, “The Fair Tax.”

The Fair Tax (a national sales tax proposal) would eliminate the Internal Revenue Service, all federal personal and corporate income taxes, and all federal payroll taxes — while being revenue neutral. With Fair Tax enactment, corporations could plan for the future. Foreign investors would put money into the U.S. economy, while hard-working people will be able to work for themselves instead of the government…

'Fair Tax' deserves to be considered, not ignored – News-Sentinel

…If you can keep all of your paycheck, they point out, you'll have more money to spend. With corporate taxes eliminated, companies would stop sheltering their cash offshore, using it to create jobs here. In fact, supporters insist, studies indicate that passage of the fair tax would result in more revenue for the government, higher incomes for workers and retires and would result in increased philanthropy despite the elimination of deductions for charitable giving.

What's more, they say, the fair tax is progressive – a byproduct of the wealthy buying more stuff and so-called “prebates” – a monthly return of sales tax revenues based on the size of families.

You've got to admit, there's a certain appeal to being able to control your taxes simply by controlling your spending. What's more, Armstrong pointed out, the fair tax is consistent with the Constitution's original intent…

Happy to say I heard back from the Tupperware people regarding their involvement with the Tax Reform Coalition. I was able to send him some good information (provided by our state director) on the FairTax and hope to hear from them again soon. I'm still working on the other tax reform groups.
Also, had another great column in our hometown newspaper on the FairTax.

Come on Ohio. The holiday season is over and its time to start hitting it again.  Centerville has already had its first meeting of the year and we our having ours here in Fairborn on the 18th. We need you all to put one foot in front of the other and continue the fight!!
