The conversation moved to hyper-segregation of schools with little being done to remedy the situation.
Consider this. The paths to upward mobility have diminished significantly in the last several decades as globalization has taken hold. Why? We chased a many low-skill jobs away from our lands.
Our nation has taken the path to upward mobility away from the least fortunate among us. Where can a poorly educated citizen make a living anymore? Where did they around the turn of the last century… you know, the great immigrant population who couldn’t even speak English stepping off the boat… They were able to find jobs in manufacturing, mining, and real infrastructure building! Now we import manufactured goods, we import oil, and we are just starting some infrastructure projects.
Let’s be clear. If you are poorly educated in this country, your options are far fewer than your grandparents and great grandparents. Chances are you are dependent on the Federal Government for your livelihood. You don’t work because there are no jobs… You are possibly in prison or in a gang or just sitting at home in a hopeless situation with no real chance of moving up and out.
What if.. low-skilled manufacturing jobs returned to our nation? What would happen if we steered poorly educated to these jobs with the promise that their hard work will create a brighter future for their children and grandchildren? This was the promise to the immigrants of the 19th and 20th centuries. This should be the real promise of America – not a house for everyone whether you can afford it or not… but a brighter future for those who work hard for it with even brighter prospects for future generations.
What will enable us to achieve the real American promise? The FairTax. The FairTax is the equivalent of a $13trillion stimulus package (by inviting U.S. wealth parked offshore back to our lands) that will have amazing impact in our nation in just a few short years. It ignite manufacturing activity since stripping out high Corp and Payroll taxes at all levels of the supply chain will enable U.S. goods to be globally competitive again.
The FairTax IS the silver bullet for our economy. It is high time our We The People demand it!
