Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25
I think I see a new political party forming.
FairTax will be part of it's platform along with term limits.

This is the a response I got from my local buddy. I meant to contact him after his convention and see if he had made any progress on FairTax. Perhaps some of you can contact your local Libertarians and urge them to get together. We can eventually get that 23% down to .01, but we have to start somewhere.
"You can't find our position on FairTax because we do not have one. The reason is that Libertarians are divided on the issue.
Maybe half our members believe the FairTax is a step forward from an intrusive IRS, and we'd all like to see the 16th Amendment repealed.
The other half are flat-out opposed to taxation, period, and do not see FairTax as an improvement over the present system. In addition, this half of our membership does not trust the government to carry out a repeal of the 16th Amendment, and fears we would end up with a FairTax on top of the income tax.
There are active and sincere members in the Libertarian Party of Georgia on both sides of the issue.
The Libertarian Party is a bottom-up organization. Because our membership is polarized over the issue, the party takes to position on it.
While our (lack of a) position may disappoint you, I trust you can respect our reasoning.

Tom, you are a tease! Like a cat w/ a rat! You hinted several days ago of a "new party" and left the rest of us to dangle and wondr and hope(?dare we? por fin-25yrs of cruddy politicians).
Now fess up. Keep the rest of us from wasting hope and speculation and give us a body we can get behind. Throw an old heifer a rope!
Is there really somebody, not at liberty to speak, and we just need to keep praying?

I belonged to a third party once in my lifetime and like all third party attempts it gradually faded away. Personally I don't think we should waste valuable capital on a third party effort. As a Conservative I think the best case would be to exert as much influence as we can in both political parties. This is just my personal opinion.

Clay, this is where I'm coming down on this issue as well, at least for now. I anticipate changes in the next several years and my opinion may be dependent upon those changes.

Divide and conquer! The libs are loving it. The Republicans have been infiltrated by RINOS and the others try to appease the libs and the liberal media. I see no backbone and a lot of traitors, e.g., Specter, Snowe, McCain, Collins… I would love a very conservative 3rd party, but I don’t know. That may really dilute the votes and give the liberal party the edge. I think the best thing would be to try to resurrect the Republican Party and find an ultra conservative, young Ronald Reagan that would unite the party. However, now that I have made that statement--I don’t know whom it would be. Maybe, Mark Sanford, Marco Rubio??? Any ideas?

I don't think the way to get the FairTax passed is to start a third party. In fact, one of the biggest impediments to the FairTax right now is that it is associated with the Republican Party and with conservatives. We have to gain influence in both major parties and it wouldn't hurt to have the support of the Libertarians, the Greens, and whoever else wants to get behind the idea.
The FairTax was designed to overcome various objections (e.g., revenue neutral, neither more nor less progressive/regressive than the current system). As a libertarian, what I like about the FairTax is that it would provide transparency -- voters would see how much the government is taking in taxes. And I think that would make the fight against ever bigger government easier.
Just my 2 cents.

Please see my earlier post to this discussion. I apologize for being so bull headed, but I think not pushing the Libertarians to support Fairtax as a means to get what WE ALL want is foolish. We already have a Third party, It is called the Libertarian party. To start another party is a fourth party. The Libertarian party was on the ballot in most of the country, more than any other "third party". That took a lot of work. Sean Howe and Barbra Howe are real Patriots. The press ignores them. Do you think a new party will do better??? Fairtax needs the Libertarian party and the Libertarian party definitely needs Fairtax. please read http://www.lp.org/platform
