Some of you may have received a letter from your Senators about S.143, a bill that would give us a 2 month vacation from taxes. I replied to Senator Hagan (NC-D) with the following:
Thank you for your e-mail about S. 143 providing a temporary tax relief for Americans. Although any tax relief is welcome, I urge you to take a leadership role in supporting a PERMANENT solution to tax relief for all Americans and at the same time providing relief for American business that will spark an economic stimulus that would far out perform any stimulus bill the government has tried to date. What I am speaking of is S. 296, the FairTax. This bill, if passed, would UNTAX the poor 100% for the first time since taxes were imposed on Americans. Finally, the Democratic Party's dream of making the wealthy pay the majority of taxes would come true. Tax rates for average middle income Americans would fall dramatically because taxes would be collected from a much wider base. Businesses and exports would have a huge burden lifted sparking an economic boom unlike anything seen in American history. It's all possible, but Congress has to decide if doing what's right for America is really what their intentions are. My question for you then is, what are your intentions?
