Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

VAT Style Sales Tax Being Considered in Washington D.C.?

The Washington Times has posted an article regarding a European style VAT in addition to the federal income tax is gaining momentum. According to the article Once Considered Unthinkable, U.S. Sales Tax Gets Fresh Look proponents claim few other options can generate the same amount of Revenue. Hello! Have they heard of The Fair Tax?

This looks like a frame-up.

"The appearance of an impropriety is worse than the impropriety itself." By proposing a VAT, they can dilute the Fair Tax and make it look bad.

It is an apparent political move to kill the Fair Tax.
Each election year the tax problem resurfaces with great changes to correct the problem. But guess what 1. more changes are added 2. After election SILENCE. Replace our present system is thinkable anything else is unthinkable.
Unfortunately, most people I've ever spoken with about taxes have no clue as to what a VAT is. Kind of scary to think the people could be conned once again by politicians.
In the UK the VAT was 17.5% at the consumer level for many items.
It was lowered to 15% over Christmas to beef up consumer spending

It is another tax at every level to generate revenue......but guess what......the tax is just passed on to the consumer.
So when it is referred to as a national sales tax it makes the FairTax look bad...it is just proof that businesses do not pay taxes.
I just saw this on Twitter. Scary indeed. If we could only get the team looking into taxes to support the FairTax.
One of the major things wrong with the VAT, and a strong reason that the politicians like it so much is that the VAT in embedded in the price of the goods or services. The consumer does not SEE the amount of taxes they are paying. It can be raised as high as the politicians want and never get blamed for the price increases!

You will notice none of the media is mentioning this!
The Fair Tax, on the other hand, is shown on every receipt. American People will know exactly how much tax they are paying ALL THE TIME!
And that's what the general public needs to know! I want some transparency and the VAT is not going to give us that. I'm gonna have to check out what version of the VAT these guys are promoting. And what about income tax? Doesn't it remain even with the VAT? No, this is not the way to go. And what does VAT do to bring jobs back home or allow offshore tax haven monies to return? Nothing.

As more and more people learn about the Fair Tax, more and more are coming to understand that this is ablolutely the smartest solution to our taxation nightmare.
The comments after the article tell a tale. Folks are mad. If this is a ploy to sully FairTax, and that I do not doubt, TimG is going to have to work harder.

old swede
Sweden has a 25% VAT. The average swede also pays 51.5% income tax.

A "rich" Swede (income greater than about $60,000/year) pays 56.5% income tax. There is also a 41.5% payroll tax. 10% paid by the EE, the rest by the ER.

This old guy left his stats on the comment section. How does this work? I said he makes 5K per mo., pays 41.5 wage tax $2,072 (hes say 10%, but istn it just passed on?), pays 56.5% income tax $1,653, then taxed at 25% when he spends. Had take home pay @ $1,272.
In looking for additional ways to raise money the congress is looking at the VAT. It appears this would be in addition to the income tax and is very appealing to those in congress who want to keep the power they have over the income tax with special deductions yet raise additional funds through a sales tax. We will continue to be double taxed by paying our income tax, the income tax placed on businesses plus a new tax of sales taxes placed on the value at each location of contribution to the product.
Our deficit is so large something has to be done. Those in power want higher taxes and they have the votes to make it pass.
Our Fair Tax would be better because it would help stimulate the economy with new investments from the money it attracts to the tax haven it would create thus over all tax revenue would increase with the economy.
We can only hope that during the discussions and debate the Fair Tax will get a fair hearing. Recent actions indicate the bill will be prepared and railroaded through without hearings or discussions or even time for all congressional members to even read the bill.
We need patience and perseverance. Some innovation will help. I still lean toward the route through the states but I know not many of you accept the convention method.
What do you propose?
I just wrote about that on my blog. The time to push the FairTax is now. The false arguments politicians have used are now void and dead. They are talking about adding 10 to 255 VAT tax on goods on top of our current taxes. There is no better time for the FairTax than now!
. I say that if they begin legislation to add a VAT, without repealing the income tax we should riot in Washington. I will quit working to attend. It is past time for a public debate FairTax vs. Flat tax, maybe we should pressure Mike Huckabee and Glenn Beck to hold the debate on Fox. It needs to be advertised nationally months ahead of time so that some of the lost people who never pay attention to what goes on in Washington will see it. The time is now to wake the sleeping giant!
I just posted the following comment to that article on the Washington Post web site.

Notice that the government proponents of the VAT didn't even remotely consider the possibility of CUTTING SPENDING.

They also ignore the fact that a VAT helps "BIG" business, while hurting small business. Small businesses have to buy component products from other small businesses and pay the VAT on those purchases, while big businesses, who manufacture their entire product in-house, don't have to pay all that intermediate VAT. This allows BIG businesses to price their products lower than competing smaller businesses. Also, the VAT will encourage BIG businesses who buy some products from small businesses, to start manufacturing those products in-house. The VAT is clearly a reward to BIG business, for their financial support of the political campaigns of BOTH parties.

Notice too, that this article states that the VAT is widely popular around the world. In fact, that is true, if you only consider the opinions of politicians. However, having lived in Europe for an extended period, I can assure you that the VAT is NOT all that popular among the lower and middle class, since they realize that they are the ones who bear the brunt of the tax load.

OTOH, a National Retail Sales Tax, such as the FairTax, is progressive and does not benefit any one group over any other. Furthermore, unlike the VAT, there are no hidden components to a "RETAIL" sales tax, since all tax is collected at the point of final retail sale, rather than at every point along the supply chain and embedded into (hidden in) the final retail price. Also, under the FairTax, every citizen would receive a "prebate" (rebate in advance) on their taxes, up to the amount of tax that would be paid by a person who lives at the current poverty level and spends all of his income every month. This makes the FairTax "progressive", since people living at the poverty level pay no tax, while those earning slightly more pay very little tax and so on up the scale.

But first, we must do two things. 1) We must toss out any congress-critter, who chooses to raise taxes, rather than cut spending. 2) We must REPEAL THE 16th AMENDMENT!

I hope that some of you will go out to the comments on that article and leave your own posts and while you are at it, recommend my post, written under the screen-name of "ActionAmerica_org".
