Where and when is the Libertarian mtg. I would like to attend
Comment by Samuel Ross on February 21, 2009 at 5:24pm
Here is the Libertarian platform on taxation......Their next meeting will be on March 28th. I believe I may be able to discuss a fairtax program with them on that day......I do not believe the current two party platform is going to accept fairtax. Remember how they treated it in the debates??

Issue: Government intervention in the state economy endangers freedom and prosperity.

Principle: All persons are entitled to keep the fruits of their labor, and any government activity that consists of the forcible collection of money or goods from individuals is a violation of their rights.

Any legal requirements forcing employers or business owners to serve as tax collectors is involuntary servitude.

Solution:

a. Remove all government restrictions on free trade;

b. Repeal all regulations of wages, prices, rents, profits, production, and interest rates;

c. We recognize the right of any individual to challenge the payment of taxes on moral, religious, legal, or constitutional grounds;

d. Repeal all taxation, such as personal and corporate income taxes and capital gains taxes;

e. Declare unconditional amnesty for individuals who have been convicted of, or who now stand accused of, tax resistance.

We oppose any and all increases in the rate of taxation or categories of taxpayers, including the elimination of deductions, exemptions, or credits in the spurious name of “fairness,” “simplicity,” or alleged “neutrality to the free market.” No tax can ever be fair, simple, or neutral to the free market. Government functions should be funded by user fees.

Transition: We call for the repeal of the following New Jersey taxes (all citations are NJSA):

1. 9-1-1 Tax (Chapter 48, 2004);

2. Alcoholic Beverage — 54:41-1;

3. Atlantic City Casino Parking Fee — 5:12-173.1;

4. Atlantic City Luxury Sales — 40:48-8-15 and 54:32B-24.1;

5. Atlantic City Tourism Promotional Fee — 40:48-8.45;

6. Cape May County Tourism Sales — 40:54D-1;

7. Cigarette — 54:40A and 56:7-18;

8. Corporation Business, Banking and Financial — 54:10A-1;

9. Corporation Income — 54:10E-1;

10. Gross Income — 54A:1-1;

11. Homestead Rebate — 54:4-8.57;

12. Hotel Tax (Chapter 114, 2003);

13. Information Services — 54:32B-3(b)(12);

14. Insurance Premiums — 54:16-1; 54:16A-1; 54:17-4; 54:18A-1;

15. Investigation and Security Services — 54:32B-3(b)(11);

16. Landfill Closure and Contingency — 13:1E-100;

17. Limousine Services — 54:32B-3(b)(13);

18. Litter Control — 13:1E-92;

19. Local Property — 54:4-1;

20. Magazines and Periodicals — 54:32B-8.5(a);

21. Massage Services — 54:32B-3(b)(8);

22. Membership Fees — 54:32B-3(h);

23. Motor Fuels — 54:39-1;

25. Parking — 54:32B-3(i);

26. Petroleum Products Gross Receipts — 54:15B-1;

27. Property Tax Reimbursement — 54:4-8.67;

28. Public Community Water System — 54:12A-1;

29. Public Utility Excise, Franchise and Gross Receipts — 54:30A-49;

30. Railroad Franchise and Property — 54:29A-1;

37. Spill Compensation and Control — 58:10-23.11;

38. Tanning Services — 54:32B-3(b)(8);

39. Tattooing — 54:32B-3(b)(10);

40. Tire Tax (Chapter 46, 2004);

41. Tobacco Products Wholesale Sales and Use — 54:40B-1 to 14;

42. Transfer Inheritance and Estate — 54:33-1 and 54:38-1;

43. Transitional Energy Facility Assessment — 54:30A-100;

44. Uniform Transitional Utility Assessment — 54:30A-114.

As an interim measure, all criminal and civil sanctions against tax evasion should be terminated immediately. Any new taxes or tax increases must be approved by popular supermajority.

Governor candidate Steve Lonegan has come out in favor of the a Flat Tax for New Jersey. The video clip referenced above is from a news conference yesterday at the State House.

This is a major disappointment. He had already proposed reducing the State budget by 20%. I was hoping that he would couple that proposal t with an innovative plan for eliminating the NJ income tax

Consequently, it does not look like we will not have any Governor candidates who will help us in the fight for HR 25 in Congress.

I am now turing my attention to NJ State legislators who might support a Fair Tax for NJ and America.

Did anyone realize there is a big tax on nursing home payments? We just had to put my grandfather in one and discovered he's paying $150 a month tax on it! His stocks took a hit thanks to the markets roller coasters, when he was earning money with his stocks the taxes took a bit of those earnings away and now this? Why are they taxing seniors, 98 years old, this much tax?! I'm so fed up right now.

This my second letter to the House Ways and Means Committee. I would appreciate it if others could send it to. I have attached an Excel spreadsheet with each member's contact info. I faxed and mailed it to both offices. I was disappointed with the response from FairTaxers to my first letter. It looks like no one likes this approach. I will continue on, although it would be great if the district Directors that have a Representative on the Committee got their people to send at least a letter to their own Representative.

Thanks

Dear Representative _________:

WHAT WOULD BE THE MOST STIMULATIVE FEDERAL TAXATION PROGRAM?

THE FAIRTAX!

Eliminating the payroll tax for employees and employers would inject over $800 billion into the US economy over the next year. Half of this would go directly to employees via a 7.6+% increase in every paycheck. Citizens could decide how to spend, save or invest this money. The other half would go directly to companies that create and maintain jobs. All of this with no administrative cost to the Federal government. How can you make this happen? Pass the FairTax legislation!

In an article in Financial Week, it is estimated that US companies could repatriate as much as $655 billion in foreign earnings if the Federal tax on foreign subsidiaries was eliminated. Imagine the effect this capital would have on today’s credit markets if it was deposited in US banks. How can you make this happen? Pass the FairTax legislation!

Some estimates say that over $11 trillion of the world’s wealth is held in Offshore Financial Centers (OFCs). Pass the FairTax legislation, which eliminates taxes on interest income, dividend income and capital gains and that money will come rushing into US banks. Imagine the effect this capital would have on today’s credit markets.

I respectfully request that a vigorous debate about the FairTax be the most important issue the House Ways and Means Committee addresses this year.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Freeman

I am planning to have an informal mtg @ my home with as many members as can attend. I live in Barnegat NJ so give me a few days and I will throw out a few dates and wait for responses.
To Samuel - You're correct. It up to us to create change.

there are many options and information on the fairtax website http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer

Anyone interested in lobbyism?? Contacting our officials is best done in teams. We can also try to plan some rallies or events where we pass out information to passersby.

I personally other than this, plan on attending the next libertarian party meeting and trying to run for office. Im very green to that aspect of politics, but hey if we dont like the laws its up to us to change them....

My Husband and I are in Cherry Hill, NJ and would love to know what we can do to get the Fairtax message out there.
