Replace All Federal Taxes on Income with the Fair Tax Act , HR 25

Neal Boortz talked about it the other day, about what would happen if the Republican Party made the Fair Tax the headline of it's campaigns. What do you think? I think ANY party taking up the Fair Tax like that would be a win-win. I am just posting this off the cuff, because I have been thinking about it.

I feel strongly that if either party were to add the FairTax to their party platform, it would be the worst thing that could ever happen to the FairTax movement. The parties would instantly make it a wedge issue that would never see the light of day. Look at what has happened to the Pro-life issue in the republican party platform.
All very good comments. I don't remember how the pro-life issue became a wedge issue. It will be very interesting to see what actually happens. The Fair Tax would sure help me and my girlfriend out, and it would help all Americans, especially the poor.
I spoke wit ha democrat today at my store. She overheard me and another customer talking about how our congressman has been in office too long and that he will not sponsor the Fair Tax (he is rep by the way).
She said that we should have term limits and she was more upset over how Senators and Congressmen of both parties are killing America. We discussed for quite awhile the Fair Tax, Helath Care and that I should run against our current and long term representative. She would not commit to the Fair Tax, and I would not agree with her on Health Care, but the main issue was that those in our Capital are far worse for America than whoever is in the White House.

It was nice to have such a long chat with a Dem who was also upset over capital hill!
She did agree with me that we should keep the Fair Tax a non-partisan issue.
Wow, what a great thread.

The FairTax issue should remain non-partisan. Taxes are paid by everyone and everyone "should be" concerned about them.

Whenever I speak with anyone about taxes they all (unless completely Liberal) say that they are tired of paying taxes. However, most DC politicians realize they would lose their power and control over us. Even the Republicans are afraid of this.

All career politicians cannot possibly be in it for us. Otherwise, they would recognize that Income Taxes are completely Un-Constitutional. The original Constitution was very specific about what the federal government could and could not do.

Until "we the people" stop sending "Washington Insiders" back to DC we will never be able to rid ourselves of the corruption that has become the federal government. These insiders are not going to always be or have been elected office holders. They could be individuals that have held other positions within the government bureaucracy.
Gale,

I have to agree with you overall, I'm just not sure how we get back to the starting point - as much as I would like to get there.

I am not opposed to a "big bang" kind of thing, just as long it leaves the Republic intact.
All,
Sorry to have changed the subject a little.

Keeping the Republic intact should be of concern to everyone in this country.

So often we hear of our country described as a democracy when this is not the case.

As stated by Bob Moore there is no real consensus among the Dems or the Reps. In my estimation they are not going to be willing to relinquish control of the massive amount of $$ that comes in as Income Taxes.

This is due to the control of a very few individuals in both parties. Unless we get a majority consensus of the people the politicians will not be willing to repeal the 16th Amendment.

We need every American from every district to get involved in this. We need every American to start challenging our elected officials on EVERY issue. We need every American to start voting to remove every politician. In essence forcing term limits on them.
My congressman is a career Rep who will not committ on HR25 even though he said he is friends with Congressman Linder and he knows the bill. Can't crack him on the issue and everyone loves him so not even a Dem will be able to take his seat.
My NEW senator is TOTALY unreachable! Everyone tells me the same thing that they get voice mail and the mailbox is full or we get a busy signal! It was even in our newspaper editorials people have complained how she will not listen to constituents!

So it is not easy to get through to these people, or in some cases at least 6 yrs before our Senator is up for election again or like our congressman, he will be there forever!
Check out this (From Hoosiers for the FairTax):

IN Representatives' and Senators' positions on the FairTax Act. Number denotes district.

Peter Visclosky IN-1 D Does Not Support
Joe Donnelly IN-2 D Does Not Support
Mark Souder IN-3 R AGAINST
Steve Buyer IN-4 R Does Not Support

Mike Pence IN-6 R COSPONSOR
Julia Carson IN-7 D Does Not Support
Brad Ellsworth IN-8 D Does Not Support

Evan Bayh Sen D Does Not Support

So, with the exception of Souder and Buyer, D stands for Does Not Support, not just Democrat.

Someone should talk to Souder. Souder is a very thoughtful guy, and would listen to reason.

I do not know Buyer, but I did like this video. http://conservative74.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/danville-in-town-hal... So it looks like he is reasonable too.
The repubs need to return to the Reagan conservative ideals. They need to get away from the dems and show that they are NOT the same. They need to return to fmr Speaker Gingrich's "contract w/ America". Then, and only then, will I again call myself a republican.
They cannot come back to power until they own up to this and DO IT!!!
But I see it as the Repub's will always be like the Dem's because they all are Politicians FIRST and they have too many lobbyists who will line their pockets.

They are CAREER POLITICIANS who have forgotten WHY they are there and WHO they are supposed to represent. They may alter their platform from time to time but the PARTY POWERS will guide them instead of the values that they should uphold.
They will do all they can to gain power and money so they will remain in DC.

It is up to Americans to realize that the Party and the games they play are NOT what is best for America! We must vote in NEW and out with the OLD. I do believe in term limits and if they are too concerned on raising campaign funds they will not be concerned over us.
> When the Republicans had both houses of Congress and Bush in the white house why didn't they grab the FairTax bill. They even got so far as to have a commission to study tax reform. That commission wouldn't even give the FairTax a read. I'm sorry folks but to too many in Washington it's all about staying in power.
That is right....they are politicians 1st!
Any campaign promise or belief that a candidate will act in our best interest is a joke!
Each party knows the benefits of the FT I am sure! When I speak to my rep and my old Senator, they give lame excuses as to why they would not sponsor the bill. We are smarter than they give us credit for! All they want is a vote at each election and that is it. They know that one party or the other will back then enough so that it is just between Dem & Rep. The power is too great for them to sacrifice for Americans anymore!
