I tend to agree with Aaron regarding W&M versus local Congressman. Not only for all the reasons listed, but also because, as members of W&M, these are the folks who stand to lose the most if the FairTax goes through.

Better to focus on others who are likely to be more objective.

Just as a note, Rangel's anger at having to answer constituent concerns tells us a lot about where Rangel's priorities lie, and it doesn't appear to be with the American public.

I've talked to Ken about the Ways and Means strategy but he doesn't think we will get results with it. You may remember in the past we focused on the Chairman of W&M, Charlie Rangel. That ended up infuriating him and his staff (I took some of the calls and wow...) without doing any more good. In general though Ken thinks W&M are going to be so hard to move (massive work with minimal results) that we need to instead surround those members with other co-sponsors. So that other Reps will go them and say "You need to get on this bill!" At the same time we will be growing local/district organizations.

So its great for very active folks to target W&M/Finance as well but getting your Congressman on board is probably going to be the best use of your time.

Yes indeed. "1-2, I will DO. 3-4 Understanding more. 5-6, That advice is cold, 7-8 when action isn't bold! 9-10, Then enthusiasm grows old.

If you are planning a "blitz" on Ways and Means, you might want to look at fax software. It makes it much easier to send, and, if you pool efforts, one person can fax a ton of letters in a very short time.

Professor Locke; I perceive that you have stated it MOST eloquently! So WHY don't we jump on this with both feet? --"1-2, fun for YOU. 3-4, we win more. 5-6, try new tricks. 7-8, it's not too late. 9-10 DO IT AGAIN!

I am District Director for NJ-8. As a practical approach, I think a good focus isthe House Ways and Means Committee. I belive any real Federal tax reform will start with this Committee.

I have created an Exccel spreadsheet that can be used for a Word mail merge. This spreadsheet is attached ion the forum titled "House Ways and Means Committee".

It is my plan to write a letter to each member each week until April 15th. I am trying to get the people in my district, the NJ leadership and the people on FairTax Nation to also particpate. I faxed the letter to both their DC and home offices and then mailed hard copies to each office. This is a time consuming effort, however, I think a focused approach such as this might reap huge benefits for the cause.

Big attendance local events are another venue of walk-by exposure. Read it this way. Spend a little to make a trailer that you can pull through any and every parade. A perfect method of promotion that takes little commitment beyond showing up to walk beside the trailer and hand out leaflets. Why do you think politicians do it!
