Adam Hamilton is pastor of the largest Methodist Church in the known universe http://www.cor.org/. The forward in his book, Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White by Jim Wallis is a particularly illuminating summary, especially this paragraph:
Conservatives have been right about the importance of culture and values and the necessity of personal responsibility; but they have been morally compromised by favoring the rich over the poor and middle classes and by conforming to American nationalism and militarism. Liberals have been right to talk about social responsibility and the need for government to ensure fairness and opportunity and a more level playing field; but they have often failed to affirm the importance of fundamental moral values in our national life, which could be done without compromising their values of democracy and pluralism.
I agree with everything in the entire Foreword EXCEPT the phrase "for government" in the paragraph above. Government has failed to love and care about people while purporting to care for their "financial safety net" needs. We need real people to do that using market based giving and caring. We should fire "civil servants" and go back to caring about people ourselves.
I know this is not "only" Fair Tax, but is important and "informs" Fair Tax thinking.
More later.

I spoke with Herman Cain after his Austin presentation this morning. His message had brought tears of hope and love of country to my eyes.
Herman had these five actions he would take to help the US economy:
1) Lower corporate and individual tax rates.
2) Reduce capital gains tax to zero.
3) Suspend tax on repatriated profits.
4) Real payroll (FICA) tax holiday (one year)
5) Tie a bow around it. Make the reductions permanent.
Since Herman had not mentioned the Fair Tax by name, I asked him about that. He wanted folks to not judge him "too harshly" for not pushing this too hard before the above 5 actions to take in his first 90 days in office (which of course are Fair Tax "starter" measures). And he wanted me to post (since I mentioned my entry two down from this) that he wants to help educate Americans on the Fair Tax once elected.
I said "Yes Sir.". Hence this posting.
I know of no better human being to lead America as president than Herman Cain, following the 2012 elections.

It is encouraging when politicians advocate for good legislation (at least to proponents of that legislation). In response to my email, Congressman Michael McCaul described the Fair Tax as follows, verbatim from his email:
You will be pleased to know that I am an original cosponsor of the Fair Tax legislation. Like you, I am concerned with a tax code that has become so convoluted and filled with exceptions for so many different activities that even the agency assigned to oversee it cannot fully understand its complexities.
As introduced by Representative Rob Woodall (R-GA), this bill would create a national retail sales tax to replace corporate income taxes, capital gains taxes, payroll taxes (including Social Security and Medicare taxes), the self-employment tax, the gift tax, and the death tax. In the place of these assorted burdens, the government would impose a single tax on all retail sales of new goods and services.
With the Fair Tax, all hidden taxes are abolished and the system is streamlined. The personal income tax is eliminated, thus abolishing the need for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) altogether. Additionally, every family would receive a rebate of the sales tax on spending up to the Federal poverty level, to be paid monthly in advance. This would allow a family of four to spend $24,680 annually without having to pay a single penny in federal taxes.
On January 5, 2011 the Fair Tax Act was referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means. While I do not sit on this committee, re assured that I will continue to support this important legislation as it makes its way through Congress.
So, let's have more emails and other contacts to Congresspeople. It gets their attention and commitment.

Shall we support a Fair Tax loving presidential candidate? Consider Harman Cain. These are his credentials:
http://cubachi.com/2011/05/06/herman-cain-defends-the-fair-tax/ says:
Cain is a huge proponent for the Fair Tax and supports abolishing the IRS. He wrote a book about the Fair Tax, so he knows about it like the back of his hand.
He corrected Chris Wallace about the Fair Tax. See video at http://cubachi.com/2011/05/06/herman-cain-defends-the-fair-tax/.
Herman Cain grew up in Atlanta, Georgia with loving parents and little else. His father worked three jobs — as a janitor, a barber & a chauffeur — and his mother was a domestic worker. Even though these jobs required hard work & little glamour, his parents knew this life was better than the sharecropping farms upon which they grew up. They also knew this hard work was the key to achieving their American Dreams.
Says Cain’s website, “They knew their faith in God, faith in themselves & faith in the greatest country on the Earth could allow their children to succeed & achieve.”
Energized by overcoming the many obstacles of his job at Burger King, Herman took on the biggest challenge of his career by accepting the call to become President & CEO of Godfather’s Pizza.
He is past Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Board of Directors, past-President of the National Restaurant Association and most recently host of “The Herman Cain Show,” on Atlanta’s WSB 750 AM/ 95.5 FM.
So far, he has NOT held public office.
So, he would likely make a great president.

HI Everyone!
With 2012 fast approaching we need to move this group into high gear. Fair Tax Nation is looking to host the Second Annual FairTax Conference in DC probably on July 29.
The working plan is to have our Storm the Hill event on July 28.
We also have a booth at the College Republican Convention
July 29 and 30.
Our plan is to pack as much FairTaxing as possible into the three days as possible.
We need your help!!
1) We need sponsors to dontate funds to support the conference. Anyone who sponsors will be given a thank you at the event plus on this site. If we could get at least 10 sponsors for 1,000 or more that would be great. We need to work out the exact details
2) We need people to attend the event. Our hope is that through the sponsors above we can keep the cost to our attendees as low as possible while still providing a high quality event.
3) We need you to volunteer for a working committee. At this time all positions are open
Your thoughts and ideas are welcome. The sooner we get this going the better.
Thanks,
Marilyn
Adrian...
See if you have a community coordinator near you and if not...step up! The bottom line is we need to EDUCATE IN MASS!!! Have our supporters in a row & ready for the the 2012 elections and ready to give a voice to ALL candidates RUNNING with the FAIRTAX in the forefront "as individuals" as only candidates can endorse the FairTax, the FairTax cannot endorse them.
