In our Governor's race, we have John Kasich versus the incumbent Ted Strickland. I have not been able to get an answer from Strickland's staff, but I did speak directly with Kasich and he expressed support for essentially the whole FairTax idea without coming out and supporting the FairTax directly. In fact, he recently announced he plans to eliminate the Ohio income tax if he is elected.

While we have been working on a state-level FairTax with several state legislatures, Kasich's open support for FairTax principles is very encouraging and, if elected, makes it more likely we could push something through.

Now that we are in the 2010 election cycle, Ohio FairTax is "getting hot". This week alone, I have had five meeting with candidates or groups wanting to know about the FairTax and what it means in the 2010 elections.

This is our chance to make a major impact on Congress. Educating people on what the FairTax means, providing information to candidates wanting to know more about the FairTax, and talking to other activists groups and showing them how the FairTax fits into their agenda/values.

The next few months are going to be critical. We need people contacting candidates on a regular basis, asking about their position on the FairTax, and expressing our views in response. We also need to be getting the FairTax into newspapers as columns or letters, as well as calls into radio programs.

Keep up the intensity and we may see Nov 2010 as the turning point in our battle to "dump the IRS"

Are part of our outreach efforts to other groups, I have established a new website/calendar for posting all ohio activists events/meetings. The idea is that anyone in Ohio could visit this site and find a meeting near them on any night of the week, or find out about events in other parts of the State.

The website is www.ohioactivists.com

If you are part of other activists groups and would like to get them included on the calendar, contact me about getting someone from the group approved as an editor.

I received an e-mail with this information:
www.cincinnati912project.com

Subject: Those leaning toward Pro-Life as opposed to Pro-death

To Whom it may concern:

I'm advised that the Susan B. Anthony List, friends of "Focus on the Family Action" , are organizing special press conferences in OH next week, to urge targeted legislators to protect life in the health care reform bill. Interested parties are requested to consider attending one of these press conferences if able and make your voice heard in support of life.

Congressman Driehaus' office is one of those destinations.

Emmette Boone
College Corner, OH

In Ohio, the following press conferences will be held:

Youngstown: Jan. 11, 1:30 p.m., at 4137 Boardman Canfield Road, Canfield, OH 44406 in front of Congressman Wilson’s office.
Cleveland: Jan. 12, 9 a.m., at Willard Park, next to City Hall, 601 Lakeside Avenue East.
Toledo: Jan. 12, 11:45 a.m., at One Maritime Plaza, on the sidewalk in front of Congresswoman Kaptur’s office.
Cincinnati: Jan. 13, 9 a.m., at Carew Tower, 441 Vine Street, Suite 3003 (corner of Vine and 5th), outside Congressman Driehaus’ office.

Over the past couple of months, we have been able to have the FairTax in our local paper almost every weekend as a guest column with articles written by our state director Steve Curtis. This is a great way to get information out about the FairTax. And it should wake us up to how we should be more involved in the written word. Steve's columns have not only been informative, but well worth reading. Lets help Steve out by writing letters all across the state to many different newspapers and informing Ohions about the FairTax, its benefits, and what we need to do to pass this desperately needed reform.

We had a terrific meeting tonight. We had new visitors, leaders from the Beavercreek Liberty group, Our state director was there, great talk, and passed out material. We also announced that ( I ) senate candidate Eric Deaton will be at our next Fairborn FairTax meeting. He will be giving a talk about himself and what he stands for after which we will have a Q & A session. So please bring a pad and pen to write down questions you may have. And I'd like to thank the folks at Roush's for allowing us to use their restaurant to hold these meetings. They have been FANTASTIC!!!!!

Lastly, and to all, Have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!!!

This sounds like a great idea, and can be implemented with little cost or effort. If anyone has friends that run a business, or have a good relationship with some of your business suppliers, why not give it a try.

A single sentence at the end of a commercial, run over and over, could raise awareness to new levels.

===================

One of our business supporters had a great idea and e-mailed it to Neal Boortz but I think the rest of us could spread the word also.
"Neal, I am one of the Fairtax organizers in Eau Claire , WI . I have a promotional idea that costs $0 which will only work with your help. If you could suggest to Fairtax-supporting local business owners around the country to include the Fairtax logo or sound bite in their ads, our exposure would grow exponentially. In many of my radio ads, I include a 2 second sound byte at the end that says "We support the Fairtax." A small logo in newspaper ads, internet etc would also work. It costs zero additional dollars for advertisers to include it, and could supplant millions of advertising dollars used for fundamental exposure. Getting the general population to first just hear of the Fairtax has helped tremendously, at least here. We proudly do most organization from ground up and hate to bug you, but I think the Fairtax would be enormously re-energized if this were to take hold!

We are working on our FairTax Newsletter, and would like to include some humor. I am looking for people with some cartooning experience who would like to contribute. If you'd like to develop FairTax-themed cartoons, and have them published in our Newsletter, let me know either on here, or directly at s.curtis@ohfairtax.org
