Had a nice, but short conversation with Mr. Dillon of the Dayton Daily News. He allowed as how the paper didn't think the Tea Party was as important as the Festival, but he didn't feel that they had "ignored it", after all, they did send a photographer to take some pictures.

I asked how his circulation was doing, and he admitted that it wasn't increasing. I then asked if he thought failing to cover what the people thought was important might have something to do with the lack of readership. He really had no answer, so we parted amiably.

Don't lose the chance to make the point that Tea Parties, and the FairTax, is here to stay, and the failure of newspapers to cover it is only going to hurt them. And, in the final analysis, they need us a lot more then we need them, or at least what they have become.

Someone might also think about pointing out to him that, if the event had been a 3,000 person rally to protest police brutality, he'd have had reporters galore and coverage for days.

Concerning no coverage of the Tea Party in Dayton Daily News - I just got off the phone with Jim Dillon, the Local News Editor. I asked him if there was a story covering the tea party - he said they did not have a story but had a photo of one of the tea party participants in the Saturday edition. I asked why there was no story. After a long pause and a "uhm", he said they had a thin staff, and that they did not see what was going to be said at this tea party was going to be any different from what was said at the last tea party. (Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just telling you what he said!) I pressed for details, and he said they had to make some decisions about what they were going to cover. So they decided it should be what would be of the most interest to their readers, and they felt it was the festival and fireworks downtown. He directed me to the photo gallery that had about 40 or 50 photos of the tea party. (If I'd been a little quicker, I would have asked him if these fireworks were going to be any different from the last ones!) His number is (937) 225-2420 if anyone else wants to call him.

Presented the FairTax to the Shelby City Council, and asked for them to draft and submit a resolution requesting State and Federal lawmakers to pass the FairTax. Reception was good from the council, but even more enthusiastic from some in the audience.

This may prove to be a fruitfull avenue of effort. If city councils start asking Columbus and Washington for action on the FairTax, it may carry even more weight then a comparable number of grassroots requests.

Just wanted to let you know:
Dayton, OH had a Tea Party in Brookville on July 3rd with about 5,000 attending. We had a great time, great speakers; but not a word in the Dayton Daily News. Please check Sundays paper a let we know if you see anything. I may have over looked the article. If you can't find anything then call the paper and let them know they should have been there. We got over 300 people to sign our petition to be placed on FairTax Nation.
On July 4th we were at Wilson Park in West Carrollton and got another 50 petitions signed for FairTax Nation.
There are so many people interested in FairTax and they just are not aware we are out here fighting the good fight to get H.R. 25 and S. 296 passed. We need at least 1000 members on the OH group. Please invite your friends. Billie in Beavercreek
